County Premier Fé-16 Hurling Final

October 24th, 2009

Blackrock 2-16 Carrigaline 3-9
Blackrock were crowned Under-16 Premier County hurling champions at Páirc Ui Rinn on Tuesday October 13th but the Carrigaline players can hold their heads high as they ran the hot favourites close and in the process contributed enormously to a high-quality game of hurling.
Four years ago at the same venue the sides met in the under-12 County Final. Carrig then took the honours but two years later at under-14 level Blackrock prevailed, so this latest final was the final showdown at juvenile level.
From the start Carrigaline showed they were up for the game when they got off to the best possible start with a cracking goal inside the first minute. From the throw-in Kevin Kavanagh picked up the ball and he found Jamie Kind whose pin-point pass put Michael Lynch in to goal after just 30 seconds of play. A minute later Cillian McSweeney was on target from a free to increase the lead.
Blackrock settled and began to dominate around the middle third and by the tenth minute had taken the lead on a 1-3 to 1-1 scoreline. Blackrock continued to dominate play and were it not for some great defending by Carrigaline they would have been further ahead. In that time Blackrock added four points, but gradually Carrigaline worked their way back into the game and a point from Robbie O’Shea made it 1-2 to 1-7 with 20 minutes gone.
A minute later Michael Lynch turned provider when he set up Jamie De Puis for Carrigaline’s second goal and when Lynch got his second of the game they were back in front, 3-3 to 1-7. Blackrock finished the half strongly with three points to lead 1-10 to 3-3 at the break.
Two early points for Blackrock increased their lead, with Cillian McSweeney and Robbie O’Shea replying for Carrig to keep only a point between the sides. Carrigaline were unlucky not to go in front when Michael Lynch doubled in the air on a Peter Mullane delivery, only to see his effort go narrowly wide. Blackrock added 1-1 to put some daylight between the sides, but to Carrig’s credit, they weren’t going to give op easily and McSweeney and O’Shea were on target again to reduce the deficit to two. Blackrock responded, but again Carrigaline came back at them and the lead was down to two again, 2-14 to 3-9, with two minutes left. Carrig pressed for the winner but Blackrock held firm and added two points to close out the game and bring to an end a really top-class game of hurling.
Carrigaline team and scorers: Robert Foster, Anthony O’Reilly, Michael O’Grady, Shane Griffin, Kevin O’Connell, Cillian McSweeney 0-4 (2f, 1 65), Stephen Dwane, Robert O’Shea 0-3 (2f), Kevin Kavanagh, Eoin Moynihan, Killian McIntyre 0-1, Jamie De Puis 1-0, Peter Mullane, Michael Lynch 2-1, Jamie Kind.

John Kerins Memorial Tournament 2009

July 6th, 2009

On Saturday June 20th the under-11 footballers played in the John Kerins Tournament Finals at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Quarter-Final : Carrigaline 2-6 Blarney 2-0
Blarney got off to a great start in this game when they goaled very early in the contest. This score awakened Carrig and Aaron Drinan began fielding well in the centrefield area leading to him scoring three great points which were added to by a Tom Deasy effort, leaving Carrig ahead by a point at half-time.
The second period began with Carrig again in the ascendancy. A goal by James Maher and further points from Aaron Drinan and Naythan Coleman tightened their grip on the game. Blarney fought back and converted a penalty award to reduce the deficit. However the result was sealed when Padraic ‘Podge’ Malone was on the end of a Dylan Quinn free-kick to score Carrig’s second goal.

Semi-Final : Carrigaline 1-3 Ballincollig 1-4 (aet)
As in the quarter-final, Carrig got off to a slow start and found themselves 1-1 in arrears early on. Aaron Drinan had a point for Carrig, followed by another Ballincollig point. Dylan Quinn reduced the margin to three points and with time running out up popped Tom Deasy with a Carrig goal to bring the game to extra-time.
In extra-time Tom Deasy gave Carrig the lead for the first time but Ballincollig equalised once again. With time almost up Tom Deasy gained possession, rounded his marker and headed for goal. His goalbound shot was magnificently saved by the Ballincollig keeper and from the clearance Ballincollig went down the field to shoot the winning point.
Heartbreak for Carrig but all members of the squad fully deserved the tremendous applause they received from the supporters.

Nemo Rangers went on to win the final, defeating Ballincollig by a point. Well done to Nemo ,to all who participated and all those involved in the organisation of a wonderful event.
Well done to the Carrigaline squad of players and their mentors, Ger Lordan, Garrettt Barry and Eoin Murphy for their hard work and dedication to training and matches throughout the year. Well done also to the parents for their help and support at all times.

Carrig Under-16 Hurlers Taste All-Ireland Success

July 6th, 2009

U-16 All Ireland Hurling Blitz 2009.

Carrigaline U16 hurlers tasted All-Ireland ‘B’ glory on Saturday last with a stunning display of team hurling in this Blitz tournament run annually in Carlow Town. After a slow start to the year this team are beginning to gel nicely and will look forward to the summer ahead with confidence.
The first game is always vital in a blitz and this was no different on Saturday when we met Kilkenny team, Kilmacow. This was a tough hard game with the result in the balance right up the final whistle. Carrig raced into an early lead and with two minutes left on clock the score was 1-5 to 3pts, but a late surge from Kilmacow narrowed the gap to 3pts and it was game on entering the final seconds. Kilmacow had one last chance when a powerful shot came off the crossbar, the final whistle sounded and we were off to that vital win.
The second game against Tipperary team, Burgess, was a much more comfortable affair. The physically bigger Burgess team had no answer to Carrigaline’s much slicker hurling and in a 20 minute spell of wonderful hurling they knocked over 14pts to run out easy winners on a score line of 14pts to 3pts.
With two wins under our belt and with the other group games going our way we knew playing our final game that we were semi-final bound and anyone who had thoughts of heading to Tullamore for the Cork/Offaly game had to quickly re-arrange their plans.
The final group game against St.Judes from Dublin was a niggly low scoring affair with Carrigaline managing to hold on for a third victory on a scoreline of 4pts to 3pts.
We now had a two hour wait for our semi-final against Ratharney from Westmeath. We left Bagenalstown and headed into Carlow Town Hurling Club, the venue for the remaining games.
The buzz with the lads was great and in glorious sunshine they took to the field for their semi-final in great confidence and again out-hurled their opponents from start to finish running out comfortable winners on a score line of 1-11 to 3pts.
In the other Semi-Final it was Roscrea (Tipp) V Naas (Kildare) with Naas progressing and hotly tipped to make it three-in-a-row, but the Carrigaline lads were having none of it and knew one more good performance would give them the Cup and bring the title home for the second time in the Club’s history.(last won in 2004).
The final was everything you wanted from a team. The Carrig lads tore into their opponents from the off and they produced some sublime hurling. There was no way these lads were going to be beaten and when eight different players registered scores in the final you knew this was one of those days when work on the training ground was transferred to the pitch when it counted most. The final score was 2-9 to 3pts and we were Champions. It is fair to say that no one lad won this day on his own, this was truly a team performance from all 20 panel members.
Scorers for the tournament: Michael Lynch 3-6: Cillian McIntrye 1-8: Cillian McSweeney 0-9: Eoin Moynihan 0-5: Dylan O Brien 0-4: Shane Griffen 0-4: Jamie Buckley 0-2: Shane Griffen 0-1: Darragh O Sullivan 0-1: Anthony O’Reilly 0-1: Kevin O’Connell 0-1:
Full Panel: Robert Foster, Philip Ahern, Michael O’Grady, Brian Curran, Kevin O Connell, Jamie Kind, Darragh O Sullivan, Cillian McSweeney, Cillian McIntrye, Shane Griffin, Eoin Moynihan, Shane Griffin (Nova), Jamie Buckley, Michael Lynch, Anthony O’Reilly, Robert O’Shea, David O’Donovan, Dylan O’Brien, David Drinan, Andrew Thomas, Jason Brady.

COUNTY UNDER-12 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS

June 15th, 2009

Carrigaline 1-15 Charleville 2-4
Carrigaline were crowned U12 A County football champions for the second time at the magnificent Mallow GAA Complex on Sunday evening last.
Having knocked Douglas out at the semi-final stage, Carrig entered the game as favourites but were made to fight hard by a game Charleville side which had a number of excellent individual players. Carrigaline were the better balanced team and fully deserved their win.
It was a great team performance by Carrigaline but there were some stand-out displays by Adam Williamson and Sean Gray in defence, Barry Ryan at midfield and Caleb O’Connell and man-of-the-match Billy Pope in the forward line.
David Griffin was rock-solid throughout and kept a tight rein on the Charleville full-forward and wing-back Colin Maguire was rarely beaten. Centre-back, Niall Quirke had a very solid game, Kieran Dwane worked hard all through at midfield while Stephen Williamson and Evan Ryle performed well in the pivotal forward positions. Caleb O Connell made some telling runs in the forward line and was always available to receive passes from the half-backs and midfielders. Indeed if the Carrig lads had their shooting boots in the first period, playing into the strong breeze, they could have been out of sight at the interval.
Billy Pope, who got 1-6 of the total, was tormentor-in-chief in the second half and showed the coolness of a veteran as he took each of his scores.
Despite playing against the wind, Barry Ryan opened the scoring for Carrigaline after three minutes. However, Charleville found their feet and and reeled off three points in succession to lead 0-3 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Two points from Barry Ryan and one from Billy Pope put Carrigaline back in front with 28 minutes played. Charleville then got a goal when a high wind-assisted ball into the goalmouth deceived the keeper to go straight to the net. Charleville added a point and Caleb O’Connell had the final point of the half to see Charleville lead 1-4 to 0-5 at the break.
Now playing with the wind, Carrigaline got off to a great start with points from Barry Ryan and Evan Ryle in the first couple of minutes to level the game. Billy Pope put Carrigaline in front in the fortieth minute and then swiftly added two more to stretch the lead. Further points from Ryan, Ryle and Pope had Carrig six to the good entering the final ten minutes.
Charleville were back in the game after 52 minutes when they goaled to make it 2-4 to 0-13 and leave only three points between the teams. Almost immediately Carrigaline worked the ball down the field and Billy Pope was on the end of the move to goal for his side and kill off the Charleville comeback.
He was on target again with two minutes to go and Steven Williamson got the last score of the game to see Carrigaline run out deserving winners.
Following the game the cup was presented to the Carrig captain, Kieran Dwane, by Mícheál McSweeney, Secretary of the County Juvenile Board.
Congratulations to the entire panel and management team of Sean Ryle, Brian Reynolds, Tony Corcoran, Pat Williamson and Pat Griffin on a wonderful achievement.
Scorers for Carrig: B Pope 1-6, B Ryan 0-5 (0-2f), E Ryle 0-2, C O’Connell,

Under-12 Footballers advance to County Final

June 8th, 2009

Carrigaline 2-3 Douglas 0-6
On Saturday last our under-12 footballers travelled to Ballincollig to take on neighbours Douglas in the County A Football semi-final. On a breezy, showery afternoon both teams served up an enthralling and gripping game of football, at the end of which Carrig held on for a famous victory and so advanced to a County Final showdown with Charleville at Mallow on Saturday next.
From early in the game it was clear that both teams were evenly-matched as they probed for openings in the early exchanges. Twice in the first ten minutes the Douglas forwards got through for goal-scoring chances but on each occasion Graham Bowdren made a superb save. Douglas pointed in the tenth minute but this was immediately cancelled out by a Caleb O’Connell point. Two pointed frees had Douglas two clear by the twentieth minute before Barry Ryan had Carrig’s second minor after being set up by Kieran Dwane. Douglas added two more points before the break to lead 0-5 to 0-2 at half-time.
Three minutes into the second half Carrig were back on terms when a Barry Ryan free deceived the Douglas defence and nestled in the corner of the net. Two minutes later Carrig hit the front when super-sub Elijah Kadi-Harrington lofted over a great point. Douglas fought back and tied up the scores once again at 1-3 to 0-6. Amazingly, there was to be only one more score in the remaining twenty-five minutes and tha came in the sixteenth minute when Caleb O’Connell latched onto a rebound from the Douglas crossbar to slot home Carrig’s second goal.
In the remaining time Douglas threw everything at Carrig but some heroic defence by the Carrig team kept them at bay to trigger scenes of joy for Carrig and devastation for Douglas at the final whistle.

Hurlers in Full Swing

May 25th, 2009

While the emphasis has been on football in recent weeks the hurlers of all grades are now beginning to see more of the action.
The under-11’s have commenced their City League campaign and got off to a fine start with a well-merited win over Ballincollig (2-1 to 0-0). They followed this up with a game against Blackrock in which they gave an excellent account of themselves before going down on a 3-8 to 2-2 scoreline.

The under-12’s hurling campaign is on hold at the present due to their commitments in the county football championship. They travel to Clonakilty on Saturday next to take on the home side in the county quarter-final. They had an excellent warm-up game against St Finbarrs in the City league last week and came away winners on a
1-14 to 1-5 scoreline. Best of luck to Sean Ryle and his charges in Saturday’s game.
(check notice board for time of game)

The under-13 hurlers have also been going well of late, recording wins over Ballincollig and Valley Rovers and drawing with Cobh.

The under-14 hurlers recorded a hard-fought win over Tracton recently as they prepare for their championship game against Valley Rvs on June 5th.

On Friday last the under-15 hurlers entertained Glen Rovers and in a tremendously skilful and high-scoring encounter came out on top by 4-21 to 4-5. Carrigaline led by 0-10 to 1-5 at half-time but in the second period the scoring floodgates were opened in a really entertaining game of hurling. Killian McIntyre was top-scorer for Carrig with 0-11 while Jamie dePuis (2-0), David O’Donovan (1-1), and Darren Murphy (1-1), also contributed significantly to the scoring. Others to shine for Carrigaline were Aodán Cotter and Aidan O’Flynn. The under-15’s are fortunate to have secured the services of coach Tony O’Donovan who last year guided the Intermediate hurlers to an historic first County Title.

Under-12 Football Champions 2009

May 19th, 2009

Carrig Crowned SE Under-12 Football Champs
Carrigaline 4-9 Valley Rovers 0-1
On an evening more akin to the month of March Carrigaline were crowned SE Under-12 Football Champions for 2009 at Minane Bridge on Monday last when they overcame the challenge of great rivals Valley Rovers.
Valleys played with the strong breeze in the opening half and soon had the Carrig defence under pressure. In the second minute Peter O’Reilly was on hand to make an important goal-line clearance to deny the Rovers. Gradually Carrig began to assert themselves and due to the influence of a dominant halfback line in which Colin Maguire was excellent all through, ably supported by Stephen Williamson and team captain Sean Gray, and a super midfield pairing of Barry Ryan and Kieran Dwane they began to control proceedings. However some wayward shooting saw the game remain scoreless until the twelfth minute. Then a long delivery by Kieran Dwane was cleverly volleyed to the Rovers net by Caleb O’Connell and just a minute later Carrig repeated the dose when Evan Ryle latched onto a Barry Ryan pass to billow the net once again.
Carrig were now in the ascendancy but Valleys responded with a pointed free in the fifteenth minute. Carrig responded in kind with a Barry Ryan pointed free and shortly afterwards Stephen O’Reilly set up Evan Ryle for another point to leave Carrig in control at the interval on a 2-2 to 0-1 scoreline.
Carrig now turned to play with the strong breeze and even though the Rovers never gave up trying there was only going to be one outcome. It took Carrig about ten minutes to find the range but once they did a succession of scores flowed from Evan Ryle (1-2), Barry Ryan (1-1), Oran Buckley (0-2), Caleb O ‘Connell and Elijah Kadi-Harrington (0-1 each).
Following the game, which was excellently handled by Paul McCarthy (Kinsale), the Chairman of the SE Juvenile Board, Martin McMullen, presented the Shield to Sean Gray and the team, mentors and supporters headed back to the GAA Pavilion to continue the post-match celebrations.

Carrig team and scorers: Graham Bowdren, Peter O’Reilly, Daithi Griffin, Peter Stack, Colin Maguire, Stephen Williamson, Sean Gray (Capt), Barry Ryan (1-2), Kieran Dwane, Colm O’Reilly, Oran Buckley (0-2), Cian Drinan, Stephen O’Reilly, Evan Ryle (2-3), Caleb O’Connell (1-1).
Subs used: Elijah Kadi-Harrington (0-1) for Stephen O’Reilly

Intermediate and Junior Hurlers advance

May 5th, 2009

HURLERS ENJOY FIRST ROUND SUCCESS
Both the intermediate and Junior hurlers tasted first round success over the weekend. The Intermediate were first out last Thursday in Caherlag in their first Championship outing in the Premier grade. This was an important game for this team after winning last year’s Championship and stepping up a level. Playing St. Catherine’s who were coming down from the Senior ranks was never going to be easy but after a nervous finish Carrigaline were well worth their three point victory.
Then on Sunday evening The Junior Hurlers started their campaign against Valley Rovers in Belgooly in what turned out to be a close encounter. A Brian Irwin goal in the second half was a major factor in the Carrigaline victory despite having lost two of their starting fifteen due to injuries in the first ten minutes. So it was a good start to both Championship campaigns and both teams now eagerly await the third round draw.
CARRIGALINE 1-16 ST CATHERINES 1-13
A first half which yielded thirteen points, a goal from Creagh Neville after the break and a top class save from Eoin O’Sullivan were the main reasons that Carrigaline are in the draw for the third round of the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship and not having to worry about the threat of relegation. Simon O’Brien scored Carrigaline’s first point in this grade and by the time the half was over all six forwards were on the score sheet plus Peter Ronayne in the middle of the field and Joe Moran from centre back who put over a free from well within his own half of the pitch. Simon added two more from frees in between a number of Catherine’s points before points from David Drake, Wes O’Brien and Tony Murphy meant Carrigaline took a firm grip of the game. The Carrigaline half back line Joe Moran in particular, were strong under the high ball being sent to their opponents attack and this laid the platform for the Carrig superiority. As the half wore on Carrig had further points from Simon O’Brien frees, Peter Ronayne, Ray Keohane and Creagh Neville meant that Carrig went in at the break 0-13 to 0-6 to the good.
The second half started well for Carrigaline with a pointed free from Simon O’Brien and then a well taken Creagh Neville goal. Joe Moran added another free shortly after to leave Carrigaline 1-15 to 0-7 in front and seemingly in total control. But Catherine’s had other ideas and used all their experience in taking control of the game and whittling away at the Carrig lead. They goaled in the ninth minute and continued to add points ensure a tense finish. Simon O’Brien added another free, Carrigaline’s last score of the game, in the fourteenth minute but still Catherine’s peppered the Carrigaline goal. A top drawer save and clearance from Eoin O’Sullivan with time running out kepf Carrig in the lead and some strong defensive work at the death ensured Carrigaline victory on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-13. The victory ensures Premier status for another year and the knowledge that this team is able to compete in this grade. TEAM; E O’Sullivan, C Lynch, G Dillon, T O’Connor, j Cowhig, J Moran, C Hurley, P Murphy, P Ronayne, W O’Brien, R Keohane, S O’Brien, D Drake, T Murphy, C Neville. SUBS; N Murphy, G Harrington.
CARRIGALINE 1-9 VALLEY ROVERS 0-8
Despite having to make two enforced substitutions in the first ten minutes of the game Carrigaline settled well to come out on top of this JAHC tie. Brendan O’Driscoll’s accuracy from frees in a difficult wind gave Carrigaline the edge and when half time sub Brian Irwin put the sliotar into the Valley’s net Carrig never looked back. TEAM; M O’Mahony, P Donnellan, A O’Keeffe, S Noonan, A Noonan, D Bagnall, D Coughlan, S O’Regan, CJ O’Sullivan, C Barry, D O’Regan, B O’Driscoll, N Coakley, J McCarthy, P Campbell. Hurlers Advance In Feile

Hurlers Advance in Féile

Féile Fé-14 Iomáint

Carrigaline 3-8 Ahan 2-5
Carrigaline made the long journey to Castletownkenneigh on Sunday afternoon last and following a very competitive game advanced to the second round of the Féile Iomáint where they will face fellow-Carrigdhoun side Sliabh Rua.
The home side made a dream start when they goaled in the first minute but Carrig fought their way back and a goal from Daniel O’Reilly enabled them to lead 1-5 to
1-3 at the interval.
In the second half Carrigaline continued to take the game to their opponents but poor shooting let them down. Further goals from Killian O’Mahony and Danny Cremin eventually sealed the win.
Best for Carrig on the day were Killian O’Mahony, Stephen McGuire, Jack Murphy, Brian Lynch and Darragh Corcoran.

City Fé-13 Football League

Carrigaline 2 -5 St. Michaels 0-13

It was always going to be a difficult encounter when Carrigaline welcomed last years county champions, St. Michaels, for their home city league game on last Saturday week. Both teams were unbeaten in this league campaign so far, so one record was going to give way. Michaels opened the better of the two teams by firing over a succession of four classy points with the only reply from Carrig being an Adam Coholan point. The Carrig defence was under severe pressure but the back line led by David Kirk and impressive goalkeeper Ryan Mc Carthy stood firm and kept a clean sheet. An excellent individual goal by midfielder Matthew O Reilly carrying the ball from the centre of the field passing the Michael’s back line and hitting the roof of the net brought Carrigaline back to level terms. Michaels hit a further five points but another point from Matthew left Carrigaline four points down at half time.
Carrigaline came out in a more positive manner in the second half and after conceding two early points laid siege to the Michaels goal. A long pass from the midfield found the unmarked Donal O Regan who scored Carrigaline’s second goal. Three more points, two from Brian Coakley and one from Adam Coholan had Carrigaline trailing by a single point. A last minute point for Michaels saw them taking the honours by two points.
On the day Carrigaline gave a great team performance with solid displays from Michael McGrath, Kieran Kavanagh and Brian Coakley. Unfortunately Darragh Buckley left the field of play after a collision and his presence was badly missed. The Carrigaline boys can be proud of their performance particularly in the second half.

Squad : Ryan McCarthy, Cathal Murphy, David Kirk, Kealen Daly, Darragh Buckley, Matthew O’Reilly, Kieran Kavanagh, , Eoin O’Connor, Daniel O’Reilly, Donal O’Regan, Brian Coakley, Mark Linehan, David Corkery, Michael McGrath , Adam Coholan, Jake Wilshire, Daniel Canty, Darren O’Mahony, Josh Cooney, Darragh Greally ( out through injury), Brion Noonan Jason Kiely,

Nemo Glas 1-0 Carrigaline 2-14

After the disappointment of the previous week losing narrowly to league leaders Michaels, it was important for Carrigaline to get back into winning ways. Carrigaline travelled to Trabeg to face what turned out to be a weak Nemo Glas team. Darragh Buckley lost the toss which meant that Carrig played against a strong breeze in the first half. This didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Carrigaline players and they raced into a nine point lead at half-time. Full credit must go to stand in goalkeeper John Maxwell who showed impressive control in the goal. Carrigaline made changes at half time to ensure the squad was fully utilised. There were strong performances from the midfield pairing of Eoin O Connor and Daniel O Reilly and from the ever improving Mark Lenihan. After some well taken scores from Brian Coakley (0-4) and Matthew O Reilly (2-6) the Carrigaline side ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-0 .

Squad : John Maxwell, B Noonan, David Kirk, Daniel Canty, Darragh Buckley, Kieran Kavanagh, Mark Linehan, Eoin O’Connor, Daniel O’Reilly, Michael McGrath, Brian Coakley, Adam Coholan, Jason Kiely, Matthew O’Reilly, Josh Cooney, Gearoid O’Donovan, Darren O’Mahony and Darragh Greally.

City Fé- 12 Football League

Carrigaline (2) 6-9 Fermoy 2-3

Carrigaline travelled to Fermoy on Sunday 29th and came away with a good win. Fermoy led by four points before Carrig registered their first score, but a purple patch midway through the first half saw them score 2-3 without reply. Emmet O’Mahony was in total control at centre forward at this point and along with the midfield pairing of Adam Williamson and Elijah Harrington, ensured that Carrig went in ahead at half time. It was more of the same in the second half with James Lordan at full back and Cian Drynan on the wing playing excellently and when Dean Foley added a brace of goals, it was curtains for Fermoy.

Carrigaline (1) 4-8 Ballincollig 2-3

Carrigaline registered their second win of this league with a fine win over Ballincollig on Saturday 21st From the start Carrig were totally focused and played some great football. They could have led by more at half-time but for a misunderstanding at the back which gifted Ballincollig a goal. There was no let up in the second half however and they ran out deserving winners. This was good team performance but in particular Peter O’Reilly was back to his best form and Sean Gray ably handled the Ballincollig danger-man. Up front Evan Ryle was in fine form too and linked well with Stephen O’Reilly for the match’s best goal.

Carrigaline (1) 2-3 Douglas 3-9

Third game up in the City League for Carrig saw them lose to Douglas on Sunday 29th last. Management admitted afterwards that this was not the best performance from their team and that quite simply a number of players did not play well on the day. This is a fine Douglas side which will take some beating in the forthcoming championship, but Carrigaline, on their day, are well capable of matching their near-neighbours.
