FE 15 CITY FOOTBALL A CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL

Carrigaline under 15 footballers were away to Douglas in the City A Championship Football Semi-final last Sunday morning.
There was a fairly even opening with both sides registering quite a few wides. The first score, a goal by Stephen Griffin for Carrigaline did not come until the 15th minute. This seemed to give Carrig the incentive they needed. A point from Stephen Corcoran, followed quickly by goals from Ivan Ward and Craig Neville left Douglas, who failed to score until the 23rd minute, with a mountain to climb. Carrigaline led at half time having played with a strong wind, 3-2 to 0-1. Douglas, in the second half, were now playing with the strong wind advantage and after much pressure had the first point of the half in the 4th minute. But a goal by Shane Barry in the 10th minute really finished the game off as a contest. Carrig also had a goal by Craig Neville and two from Stephen Corcoran. Carrigaline had expected a tougher contest, but Douglas had no answer to our forwards, whilst at the other end of the pitch our defence was well on top through out the game. Final score: Carrigaline 7-2, Douglas 0-4. This was another fine team performance, with Peter O’Mahony, Peter Ronayne and Joseph Moran playing exceptionally well. Stephen O’Regan and Paul Campbell were excellent at mid-field and all the forwards played really well.
SCORERS: STEPHEN CORCORAN AND CRAIG NEVILLE 2-1 EACH, STEPHEN GRIFFIN, IVAN WARD AND, SHANE BARRY 1-0 EACH.
Players used: P. Donnellan, J. McCarthy, G. Kiely, P. O’Mahony, P. Ronayne, J. Moran, D. Cullinane, S. O’Regan, P. Campbell, S. Griffin, C. Neville, K. Manley, S. Corcoran, I. Ward, S. Barry, T. Murphy, and N. Coakley.

BUSY WEEK FOR CARRIGALINE U15 FOOTBALLERS.

Whilst most teams are taking a well-earned rest from the playing field, it was business as usual for the Carrigaline U15 footballers. They were in action twice over the last week. On New Year’s Day they were at home to St. Vincent’s in the quarter final of the City League and on Sunday they were at home to Macroom in the quarter final of the City Championship.

The league match was played in very blustery conditions. Carrigaline played with the very strong wind in the opening half and held the opposition scoreless. Vincent’s came more into the game in the second half, but still found scores hard to come by. An easy enough victory for the home team.
SCORERS: I. WARD 2-0, S. GRIFFIN 1-3, C. NEVILLE 0-4, KIERAN MANLEY, STEPHEN CORCORAN AND PAUL CAMPBELL 0-1 EACH.

In the opening stages of the championship match, both teams played some nice football, but once again Carrigaline were well on top when it came to scoring. As a contest this match was over at half time. Macroom midfielders played well but their forwards could not overcome our strong defence. It was a good team performance with all five subs also showing that they too can make a valuable contribution. In the end it was a comfortable win for Carrigaline and they now play Douglas this coming weekend in the semi-final.

SCORERS: STEPHEN CORCORAN 2-4, STEPHEN GRIFFIN 0-4, CRAIG NEVILLE 1-1, JONATHAN COWHIG 1-0, NIALL COAKLEY 1-0, PAUL CAMPBELL AND STEPHEN O’REGAN 0-1 EACH.
