Under 21 A Football Championship

Pride restored and a final against Shamrocks were the rewards for a much improved performance in the semi-final against Tracton when a 10 point defeat was turned into a 5 point victory in just eleven days. It was essential that Carrig would match Tractons tenacity and will to win to have any chance in this game and they certainly did on this occasion. In the end the difference was the Carrig forwards ability to get goals at vital stages. This was a typically hard, physical (but very sporting) championship encounter played at a fast pace from the throw in.

Carrig started well gaining a good deal of possession but were unable to put anything on the score board. Tracton made much better use of their possession scoring points in the 5th and 12th minute. Carrig looked to be in a bit of trouble at this stage but Barry O’Keeffe, who was Carrigs best forward in the first half, bravely punched a delivery from Paul Holland to the net to give us a lead that we never subsequently relinquished.

Paul Holland, who was to make a vital contribution through out at center forward, scored a wonderful point from way out on the right hand sideline in the 19th minute. This was cancelled out straight as a result of a pointed free. Eoin O’Sullivan opened his account from a free in the 22nd minute but this was again cancelled out. Eoin Barry had the last score of the half when he burst through for a point to leave the half time score Carrigaline 1-3, Tracton 0-4.

Eoin Barry opened the scoring in the second half when he pointed after being set up by Eoin O’Sullivan in the 3rd minute. This was again cancelled out but with Eoin Barry and Ronan Hennessy getting a grip at midfield, Carrig started to get on top. Two points from Eoin O’Sullivan (one from a free) put four points between the teams after nine minutes of the second half. But Tracton continued to press forward and Carrig were great full to goalkeeper Matthew O’Sullivan when he deflected a goal bound shot over the bar in the 13th minute. Carrig lost there way for a while and Tracton had the margin reduced to the minimum with 8 minutes to go.

Tony O’Sullivan settled the nerves a little when he pointed after being set up by Eoin Barry. This score was again cancelled out in the 24th minute and another draw appeared to be looming. The Carrig defence held firm with the Carrig full back line of Andy O’Keeffe, Cian O’Mahony and Raymond Keohane particularly solid.

Both teams were reduced to 14 men after a fairly trivial incident but the additional space worked to Carrigs advantage. With the clock ticking into the 30th minute, a sweeping movement up the field finished with Tony O’Sullivan setting up late substitute, Timmy Kenneally who rounded the Tracton keeper and drilled the ball to the net to the massive relief of the Carrigaline bench and supporters. Paul Holland rounded off the scoring with a point to leave the final score Carrigaline 2-8, Tracton 0-9

Team: Mathew O’Sullivan, Andrew O’Keeffe, Cian O’Mahony, Ray Keohane, Colin Lynch, Gary Harrington, Rory Barrett, Eoin Barry (0-2), Ronan Hennessy, Eoin O’Sullivan (0-3), Paul Holland (0-2), Tony O’Sullivan (0-1), Barry O’Keffee (1-0), Elliot O’Keefe and Daniel Twomey. UNDERAGE REPORTS
City Football League
Fe15
Carrigaline Vs Nemo Rangers.

Carrigaline had a well deserved away victory over Nemo in this U15 game played at Trabeg on Saturday, in difficult underfoot conditions and a driving crossfield gale. The visitors adapted well to the trying conditions, and gained an early advantage at midfield, where Eoin O Sullivan and Robert Foley won the early exchanges, which in turn ensured that the forwards enjoyed good quality possession, that resulted in newly converted full forward Brendan Cashman, scoring two excellent goals and a point. At this stage, the Carrigaline half backline had a tight stranglehold on the Nemo half forward line, especially fleet footed centre back Andy O Sullivan, who broke up several attacks, ably assisted by wing backs Mark Williamson and Conor Hurley, whose forceful attacking play set up several attacks. With Tony Murphy working very hard and winning a lot of possession at wing forward and centre forward Niall Coakley’s high fielding and good all round distribution, Carrigaline had a further goal from Kevin Ahern, a point from Owen Harrington and a Niall Coakley free, to leave the half time score, Carrigaline 3-03 Nemo Rangers 0-00.

Aided by a slight breeze and a good half-time talk Nemo were a different team in the second half, throwing everything at the visitors, and but for some good defensive play by Brian Giltinan at corner back, whose timely interceptions, good positional play and excellent distribution out of defence, Carrigaline could have conceded a number of scores. They were finally breached with a goal in the fifteenth minute, and a further two points late in the second half to Carrig’s one to leave the final score Carrigaline 3-04 Nemo Rangers 1-02.
Carrigaline’s goalkeeper, James O Reilly, deserves special mention for an excellent save in the first half, and the team in general demonstrated a good appetite for the game and played well given the difficult conditions.

Team: James O Reilly, Daragh Coughlan,Kilian Kavanagh, Brian Giltinan, Mark Williamson, Andrew O Sullivan, Conor Hurley, Eoin O Sullivan, Robert Foley,Owen Harrington, Niall Coakley, Tony Murphy, Michael O’Sullivan, Brendan Cashman,Kevin Ahern, Cian O Sullivan, Kevin Buckley, Stephen Power, David Manley.

Fe 14 Football League

On Saturday, the under 14 footballers played Nemo Rangers in the City League, in what was a very entertaining game in very wintry conditions. Brian Dorgan, at wingback, scored a goal and David O’Regan got a very good point. This was a much-improved performance compared to last week, when they were outplayed all over the field. Daniel Bagnell, James O’Shea, and Shane Noonan held out well in the full back line. Just before halftime, Jonathan Bermingham saved a penalty. Simon O’Brien scored three points and was very unlucky not to score a goal. Eoin Conway, at full forward also caused a lot of problems for the Nemo fullback, and was rewarded with a very well taken goal. Carrigaline battled well throughout the game, and were unlucky not to earn a draw when Gary Naughton made a great run at goal, only to see his efforts cleared off the line.
FINAL SCORE: Nemo Rangers 3- 6, Carrigaline 2- 6.

Fe12C Football
On Saturday March 20th, Carrigaline Fe12C football team had their 1st match of the season away to Nemo Rangers.
Carrig started well playing up the hill in the first half with some brilliant moves and passes, but with a very strong wind blowing that kept the game scoreless at half time. With Carrigaline’s policy of playing all players, changes were made. At the beginning of the second half, Carrig again started well, but with very inclement weather conditions Nemo scored 2 goals from play followed by 3 points from frees Carrig still battled on bravely, playing exceptionally well and were rewarded with a well deserved goal from Padraig Conway. Final score 2-3 to 1-0

UNDERAGE REPORT
Fe12B Challenge Football Match
Carrigaline Vs Cobh
On Sunday, March 14th Carrigs Fe12B’s played away to Cobh under such harsh conditions and with the wind blowing hard straight up the pitch, it put it up to Carrig in the first half. Carrig’s defence were under pressure straight from the start and tried their hardest to stop Cobh from scoring from inside their half back line, and after 17 minutes had kept Cobh to only five points. But with 2 quick goals from Cobh in the 20th and 21st minute, Carrig were now in a tough position. Cobh finished off the half with another 2 points and led by 2-7 to no score.

But with Carrig’s policy of all players must play, 11 changes were made at half time. Carrig’s amount of possession increased in the second half due to the conditions and had plenty of goal mouth incidents. Carrig’s play deserved a lot more scores, especially after keeping Cobh scoreless themselves in the second half, but only scored 5 points in return, which left the final score, Cobh 2-7 to 5 points.
Squad: Peter Bresnan, Jack Shannon, Cian O’Flynn, Stephen O’Mullane,Chris Naughton, Terrence McSweeney, Amir Ali, Michael O’Grady, Padraig Conway, Luke Hanlon, Stephen O’Flynn, Colm Lnych, Thomas Kent, Martin Malloy, Robert O’Shea, Cormac Conway, Morgan Hanlon, Gary O’Mahony, Stephen Caffery, Ciaran Malone, Richard Aherne, David Callaghan, Alan Cooney, Diarmuid Hickey, Eric Ward, Daragh McCarthy, Gary Murphy, Killian McSweeney, Anthony O’Reilly.

Under 21’s defeat Courcey in Championship

The Under 21 Footballers put behind them a very poor display against Tracton to defeat Courcey Rovers in the quarter final of the championship. They will meet Tracton again in the semi-final (their third meeting in as many weeks). The Intermediate hurlers had there first outing in the new Intermediate Grade, which has been introduced this year, and were unlucky to go down to Ballymartle by a point. The minor footballers accounted for Whites Cross in very difficult conditions

Under 21 A Football Championship

After a very poor performance against Tracton on St. Patrick’s Day, the Under 21 Footballers put in a much improved performance against Courcey Rovers to set up another encounter with Tracton.

Carrig had the benefit of the howling gale in the first half and they certainly made full use of it scoring 7 points in the first ten minutes from Daniel Twomey (2), Paul Holland (2), Elliot O’Keeffe, Tony O’Sullivan and Eoin O’Sullivan. Two further points from O’Keeffe and Holland plus a goal and a point from Eoin O’Sullivan left the score 1-10 to 0-0 after only fourteen minutes. The team took their foot of the pedal at this stage and added just two more points, from Elliot O’Keeffe and Tony O’Sullivan, before half time to leave the half time score 1-12 to 0-1.

It was a different story in the second half with Courceys getting a greater supply of possession but the defense did well to hold them to five points. With the game going into injury time Paul Holland and Tony O’Sullivan added points to leave the final score Carrigaline 1-14 Courcey Rovers 0-6.

The semi final against Tracton will be a different proposition. It is rarely that a team can play as bad as we did in the replay against Tracton and get another chance to redeem themselves. Hopefully the players will be spurned on by the memory of that defeat but it will need a huge effort and increase in the level of commitment from all players to reach another final.

Team: Mathew O’Sullivan, Andrew O’Keeffe, Cian O’Mahony, Ray Keohane, Colin Lynch, Gary Harrington, Rory Barrett, Eoin Barry, Ronan Hennessy, Eoin O’Sullivan (1-2), Paul Holland (0-4), Tony O’Sullivan (0-3), Barry O’Keffee, Elliot O’Keefe (0-3) and Daniel Twomey (0-2). Subs: John Winters, Timmy Kenneally, Andrew Duggan and Richard Jenkinson

Intermediate Hurling

In adverse weather conditions at Riverstick last Sunday, Ballymartle came out on top over Carrigaline on a scoreline of 1-11 to 3-4 in the first round of the Sean O’Murchu cup.

Due to underfoot conditions and the fact that it was our first outing of the season, Carrig put up a reasonably good performance. Playing into the wind in the first half, we got off to the best possible start with a goal from Anthony Burke. This was followed quickly by a pointed free from Brendan O’Driscoll, but due to missing a number of easy frees during the rest of the half and a number of unforced errors resulting in the concession of easy frees to the opposition we finished the half 1-7 to 1-1 in arrears.

On the resumption, Carrig turned over to play with the wind. An improved performance, primarily due to the switching of Ger Hoey to center back allowed Carrig to slowly claw their way back into the game. But again as in the first half, a poor return from frees left Carrig trailing Ballymartle by 5 points entering the final quarter. With Eoin O’Sullivan and Kevin O’Driscoll coming into their own at midfield, Carrig pushed forward and goaled through Michael O’Sullivan. Paul Foster, switched from corner back to full forward, had a great effort saved by the goalkeeper but the resultant shot by Anthony Burke went straight to the net. Further pointed frees from Michael O’Sullivan left the minimum between the teams, but try as they might the strong resistance of Ballymartle held on in this close encounter to win by a point.

Others to impress for Carrigaline were Jimmy Murphy, Geoff Dillon and Cian O’Mahony in defense and Peter Murphy up front.

Team: Brian Irwin, Ger Hoey, Jimmy Murphy, Cian O’Mahony, Paul Foster, Kevin O’Driscoll, Geoff Dillon, Eoin O’Sullivan, Brendan O’Driscoll, Andy O’Keeffe, Peter Murphy, Philip Ahern, Anthony Burke, Michael O’Sullivan and Eoin Kehoe. Subs: John Dineen and Gavin Fitzgerald

Under 21’s Draw with Tracton in Championship

Last weekend saw the commencement of the Under 21 Football Championship v Tracton in Minane Bridge. At the end of 80 minutes play (including extra time) both teams managed a paltry 1-5 each. The score line in particular reflected the Carrigaline performance but Tracton will bemoan the absence in their team of a free taker as they missed numerous close in frees. Their is no substitute for match practice and maybe a number of the Carrigaline players may reflect on their absence from the playing fields during the last couple of weeks when the junior selectors were crying out for personnel. The team management will need a full turn out for training this week and maybe a more direct approach may yield dividends in next weeks replay.

The Intermediate Footballers put in a storming finish against Ballinora scoring 6 points in the last fifteen minutes to earn a draw. The junior footballers battled bravely before going down to Courcey Rovers handicapped again by a number of players crying off late in the day. The minor footballers suffered their first defeat of the season going down to Nemo Rangers

Congratulations to our Scor figure dancing team who qualified for the Munster Final last Saturday.

The Race night was another resounding success and many thanks to all who worked during the event and the organising committee.

Under 21 A Football Championship

The first weekend in March is an unusual time to play a championship game but conditions were ideal last weekend for the first round of South East Junior Football Championship game played in Minane Bridge.

Carrig played against the wind in the first half but went ahead on the 5th. minute when Paul Holland scored a fine point. The game swung Tractons way in the 10th minute when a defensive mistake left Tracton in for a soft goal. Tony O’Sullivan pointed immediately to leave a point between the teams. There were just two more points before half time, the Carrigaline point coming from a free converted by Eoin O’Sullivan. This left the half time score Carrigaline 0-3, Tracton 1-1. In truth Tracton should have been five or six points ahead but missed a number of scoreable frees during the half.

Carrig turned to play with the breeze but it was Tracton who opened the scoring in the second minute with a point. With Eoin Barry gaining the ascendancy in midfield Carrig forwards saw more of the ball but as a unit they lacked any penetration with The Tracton full back and centre back being particularly dominant. Elliot O’Keeffe reduced the deficit to the minimum after some great work by Colin Lynch. Tracton looked the more likely to score and had stretched their advantage to three points by the 22nd. minute. Six minutes from the end Carrig got a reprieve when Paul Holland prevented a ball from going wide and found substitute Barry O’Keeffe on the edge of the square. Barry made no mistake and dispatched the ball to the Tracton net. Tracton were not finished and went a point up again with three minutes to go. It was fitting that it was Carrigs best player on the day, wing back Colin Lynch, who equalised when he won possession sixty yards from goal and drilled the ball over the bar for a magnificent score. This left the score 1-5 each. Amazingly twenty minutes of extra time brought no further score all thought it was Tracton who had most of the possession in this period.

Overall a poor team performance but a number of players stood out. Goal keeper Mathew O’Sullivan will be disappointed with the concession of the goal but he was very secure after wards and handled a number of tricky situations very well. Colin Lynch was outstanding throughout while Eoin Barry worked tirelessly in midfield. A big improvement is required for the replay

Team: Mathew O’Sullivan, Andrew O’Keeffe, Cian O’Mahony, Alan Jenkinson, Colin Lynch (0-1), Rory Barrett, Ray Keohane, Eoin Barry, Gary Harrington, Eoin O’Sullivan (0-1), Paul Holland (0-1), John Winters, Tony O’Sullivan (0-1), Daniel Twomey and Elliot O’Keeffe (0-1). Sub: Barry O’Keeffe (1-0).

Intermediate Football

After a disappointing opening game to Valley Rovers, the Intermediate Footballers put in a much improved performance against Ballinora in the second game of the Tom Creedon Cup. Carrigaline started extremely well but old failing again of getting scores
cost us dearly hitting three wides in first 5 minutes.

Ballinora settled and got three quick points without reply. Carrigaline then
scored through Eoin Murphy.

Ballinora scored another 2 points and just before half time Ollie Conlon was
put through and scored a goal. Score at half time was Ballinora 0-6 Carrigaline 1-1. (Carrigaline had 5 wides in first half).

Ballinora scored the first point of the second half and then a quick reply
from Carrigaline.

Ballinora scored another four points without reply, leaving the score 0-11
to 1-2 with 15 minutes to go.

Carrigaline finished the much stronger and scored 6 points without reply.

Scores for Carrigaline were E. Murphy 0-3, M. Doody 0-2, O. Conlon 1-1, K O
Keeffe 0-1, E. Barry 0-1.

This was a much improved performance. Still much work to be done. Best for
Carrigaline were G. Dillon, N. Murphy, E. Murphy and O. Conlon.

Minor A Football

The Minor A Footballers suffered their first defeat of the season going down to a very good Nemo side. The damage was done in the first half when despite playing with the wind we conceded four goals. Carrig despite goals from Andrew Duggan and Alan Murphy trailed at half time by 4-6 to 2-4.

The second half saw a much improved performance with Timmy Kenneally taking charge at midfield and Wesley O’Brien a constant threat upfront. There was also good displays from Jason Kidney, Peter Donnellan and Hugh Cox.

Nemo ran out deserving winners on a final scoreline of 4-9 to 3-5

Team: Shane O’Hanlon, Jason Kidney, Brian Cotter, Kieran Kelleher, Peter Donnellan, Ray Keohane, Colin Twohig, Gary Harrington, Andrew Duggan (1-0), Hugh Cox, Timmy Kenneally (1-2), Tony O’Sullivan (0-1), Wesley O’Brien (0-2) , Cormac Creed Nolan, Alan Murphy (1-0). Subs: Alan Webb, Alan Jenkinson, Paul Kiernan, John Walsh, Colin Lynch, Wesley Roynane and David Hennessy

Fe15 City Football League
Carrigaline Vs St. Michael’s

Carrigaline, aided by a slight breeze in the first half, began this U15 City league football home match in very determined fashion. They played some very attractive, passing football in the opening 15 minutes and were rewarded with a goal in the 8th minute, from a penalty converted by full forward Niall Coakley. They continued to play some very attractive football, with Mark Williamson, Brian Giltinan and Conor Hurley particularly prominent in defence, initiating many good moves and linking up well with their very hard working mid-fielders Robert Foley and Eoin O Sullivan, who grafted tirelessly for the entire game, but unfortunately, the inside forwards were unable to penetrate a well marshalled St Michael’s defence for the remainder of the half. The visiting team upped their performance in the second quarter and scored four points without reply and could have been further ahead at half time, but for the Carrigaline goalkeeper James O Reilly, who made a great save when a goal seemed on.
Half Time Score Carrigaline 1-00 St Michaels 0-04
The 2nd half was an equally tight affair with little between the teams. Carrigaline’s, Michael O Sullivan opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with an excellent point from an acute angle on the right wing, only to see the visitors reply immediately with a goal in the 3rd minute. The home team raised a 2nd green flag in the 10th minute, when after some good interplay between the forwards, Tony Murphy latched onto the final pass, soloed between the two opposing backs and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the net just before he was injured in the tackle, which necessitated his retirement due to injury. Owen Harrington gave his side the lead with a point in the 12th minute. The see-saw struggle continued with St Michaels enjoying their best spell of the game between the 15th minute, when they scored an equalizer and the 28th minute, when they scored what looked like the winning point given the territorial advantage they had enjoyed for the previous ten minutes. But this was not the end of the proceedings, the home team worked the ball speedily out of defence with some excellent slick passing, which ended with Robert Foley scoring the equalizing point. In injury time, Carrigaline were awarded a free about forty metres out, which fell short and broke around the square, where Michael O Sullivan was the quickest to react, and rifled a powerful shot first time into the net, to leave the keeper with no chance and Carrigaline winners by a goal.
Final Score: Carrigaline 3-03 St Michaels 1-06

Best for Carrigaline were Mark Williamson, Brian Giltinan, Conor Hurley,Robert Foley, Eoin O Sullivan, Tony Murphy, Michael O Sullivan and Niall Coakley.

Team: James O Reilly, Mark Williamson, Brian Giltinan, Brendan Cashman, Kilian Kavanagh, Andrew O Sullivan, Conor Hurley, Robert Foley 0-01, Eoin O Sullivan, Owen Harrington 0-01, Tony Murphy 1-00
Michael O Sullivan 1-01, Stephen Power, Niall Coakley 1-00, David Manley, Daragh Coughlan, Jamie O Sullivan, Kevin Ahern, Cian O Sullivan.

Fe14 City Football League
St. Nicks 3-8
Carrigaline 1-7

Last Saturday Carrigaline’s Fe14’s played St. Nicks in the Glen field. Carrigaline were very slow to get started and were being run ragged in mid-field and the half backline. This was not helped by some of the referees decisions. A lot of credit is due to the lads in that they stuck to their task. Carrig’s Brian Dorgan, slowly came into the game with some excellent clearances; he made a couple of good scores. Gary Naughton dropped back into centre back, and this seemed to stop the flow of the ball going into the St. Nicks forwards. Redverse McGrath and Mark O’Mahony tried hard for Carrigaline and Redverse was very unlucky not to score a goal coming up to half time.
Shane Noonan and Timmy Byrne played very well in the second half. Carrigaline should have had several frees in a second half that they dominated. For the second week, Jonathan Bermingham, for Carrigaline, was superb in goal. Jason O’Leary and Eoin Conway made some great tackles in the second half. Jamie Corcoran also came on and preformed very well.
Next Saturday, the Fe14’s will be playing St. Finbarr’s at 2.00 in Carrigaline. Training on Thursday night at 6.00.

Fe12B Challenge Match
On Saturday, March 6th Carrig’s Fe 12B’s played a challenge match away to Nemo Rangers. Nemo started very well and after 15 minutes were a well deserved 1-2 to no score. Carrig were kept under severe pressure trying to play up the hill, but a quick and brilliant break by Carrig saw them score a well taken goal. Carrig’s midfield of Robert O’Shea and Richard Aherne kept breaking up Nemo’s attack and only gave away another two points. With both teams getting ready for the break, Carrig scored a lucky goal from a free kick, leaving the score at half time, Nemo 1-4 Carrigaline 2 goals.
Now with Carrig playing down the hill, they started to dominate midfield and scored some good points from open play. Cian O’Flynn and Alan Cooney driving from the half forward line seemed to break the will of Nemo, but back they came and scored another 2 well worked goals. Carrig were now 2 points behind, but playing well. Carrig’s dominance in midfield, and the forward line working hard gave Carrig a one point lead going into the last minute. Alan Cooney broke through again from the half forward line and scored a brilliant goal to settle the match.
Final score: Carrigaline 3-8 Nemo Rangers 3-4.

Fe 12B Challenge Match
Carrig’s Fe 12B’s had their second challenge match over the week-end, when they played host to Glen Rovers, last Sun. March 7th. From the outset, Carrig played brilliant football and scored some excellent scores. But with all their possession, Carrig only led by 3-4 to 3-1 at half time. With Morgan and Luke Hanlon playing some brilliant football, Carrig came out and started to dominate the Glen in what looked like one way traffic. But the Glen put it up to Carrig and scored an unanswered 2-2 to stay in the match. Carrig broke away from a quick free kick, which saw Robert O’Shea score a brilliant goal, which put Carrig ahead again. Carrig finished well and ended up winning, with a score line of 5-5 to 5-4.
Squad: Padraig Conway, Luke Hanlon, Stephen O’Flynn, Colm Lnych, Thomas Kent, Martin Mulloy, Robert O’Shea, Peter Bresnan, Jack Shannon, Cian O’Flynn, Stephen O’Mullane, Chris Naughton, Terrence McSweeney, Amir Ali, Cormac Conway, Morgan Hanlon, Gary O’Mahony, Stephen Caffery, Ciaran Malone, Richard Aherne, David Callaghan, Alan Cooney, Diarmuid Hickey, Eric Ward, Darragh McCarthy, Gary Murphy, Killian McSweeney, Anthony O’Reilly. Under 21 Football Championship Commences

The Under 21 Football Championship commences next Saturday when we travel to Minane Bridge to take on Tracton at 4.00. We were very lucky to defeat Tracton in the first round last year and this years encounter will be every bit as close. We went on last year to win the South East title but have lost eight players from that team.

It was a very disappointing weekend on the football front losing three matches, two junior and one Intermediate. The minors did defeat Brian Dillons to claim the only victory of the weekend.

Unfortunately Dave Fleming picked up a serious injury in the Junior match v Kinsale and we wish Dave a speedy recovery

Congratulations to the Carrigaline figure dancing team who won the County Final of Scor in Kanturk on Sunday night.

Race Night

Our annual Race Night is on next Friday 5th, first race at 8.30. This is a vital part of the clubs fund raising effort. In particular, this year, the club has been hit with the exorbitant cost of the new player insurance scheme introduced by Central Council. This cost will have far reaching consequences for GAA clubs and will see a big reduction in teams entered in competitions and may see the demise of some clubs when we should be trying to attract more people to play the game. There are times when people at the grass routes level wonder if those running the Association at the very top have lost contact with the ordinary club member. The elite inter county players have their own association to look after them but this association doesn’t appear to have any interest in the welfare of the club player either. (On a personal note, one wonders if the gate receipts from the renting out of Croke Park for one or two major attractions in other codes could be used to offset some of these massive costs which are being landed on the lowly clubs without any thought being put into the consequences down the road).

So a special appeal to the people of Carrigaline and surrounding areas to come and support us Friday night.

Intermediate Football

The intermediate footballers travelled to Brinny on Sunday to take on Valley Rovers in the Tom Creedon Cup. Having defeated Valleys in the championship last season, hopes were high of a credible performance. When Peter Murphy pointed within thirty seconds of the start, a good performance was on the cards. However a point from Ken O’Keefe three minutes later was to be our only score in the first half. Valley Rovers dominated the first half helped by some slack Carrig defending which resulted in the concession of three goals (half time score Carrigaline 0-2, Valley Rovers 3-7).

The second half showed some improvement but some wayward shooting left the final score Valley Rovers 3-11 to 0-6. Certainly a huge improvement is required if we are to maintain the progress that was made last year

Team: Mathew O’Sullivan, Killian Forbes, Brian Irwin, Kieran Blake, Colin Foley, Tom Burke, Neally Hayes, Peter Murphy (0-2), Nicholas Murphy, Ken O’Keeffe (0-1), Eoin O’Sullivan (0-2), Eoin Barry, Paul Holland, Eoin Murphy (0-1) and Ollie Conlon.
