UNDERAGE REPORTS NOV. 20TH
Thursday, November 25th, 2004U14 South East League Final
Carrigaline 8-13
Sliiabh Rua 5-0
On Sunday afternoon Carrig’ U14’s travelled to Riverstick to play Sliabh Rua in the hurling legue final. Carrigaline started well with a goal and 3 points unanswered. Then Sliabh Rua scored two goals before Carrigaline banged home another goal, to lead 2-3 to 2 goals. Carrig seemed to be playing well, but in fairness to Sliabh Rua they still posed a threat when they moved forward with purpose. Mark O’Mahony in goal was excellent again. Tony O’Connor at centre back really had the measure on his marker. Simon O’Brien was all over the place again scoring 2-5 on the day. David O’Regan, centre forward scored 2-2. Eoin Conway, who has played out of his skin all year, also got on the score sheet with a goal.
The full forward line of Adrian Lynch, James Crowley and James McCarthy were outstanding scoring 3-5 between them. In the second half Carrigaline chased everything and never gave up. Cian Barry accidentally got a nasty knock to the head towards the end of the game, but thankfully he’s fine. Cian had an outstanding game again on the day scoring a point, as well as being fouled in scorable places on a number of occasions.
This was a great victory considering the disappointment of loosing the County Premier Final to Eire Og. By the way the correct score in the county final was 3-10 to 0-7.
This was the U14’s final game of the year and team manager, Kevin O’Brien, would like to thank Tom Jones, Pa Burke, Paul Kidney, Val Rowley, Eddie Byrne and Pat Barry for helping out all year. The support they got was brilliant and the team really appreciated it. Also, he would like to say a big thank you to all the people who gave lifts to the matches during the year.
And finally thanks to the players themselves for the enjoyment that they provided throughout the year. Who will ever forget the Feile Final against Cobh in Ballinlough and also the win against Valley Rovers in the football championship, not forgetting the U4 county semi-final against Bandon? Thanks lads.
The players would also like to thank Sarah and Jack McGrath for all the tasty food they cooked for them during the year.
Even though we were well beaten by Eire Og in the U4 football Championship, Kevin would like to mention the display given by Jonathan Bermingham was something else on the day, Well done, Jonathan!
U11 South East Football League Final
Carrigaline 1 (0-6) V Valley Rovers (0-3).
On a damp misty afternoon on Sunday last Carrigaline U11 completed the double, when they added the South- East football title to the hurling title they won last month. This was a hard fought game right up to the final whistle with Valleys fighting spirit keeping the result in doubt to the end.
With good football being produced on both sides scores were hard to come by, mainly due to some excellent defending, but when Carrigaline began to get on top around the middle of pitch with Stephen Dwane tuning in a great display, they eventually opened their account, then Dylan O’Brien danced around two Valleys defenders, to score a wonder point from the left. They quickly added a second when Robert O’Shea pointed from a free. Carrigaline full of running all over the pitch moved the ball sweetly from their back line through the middle, and with pin point pass from Robert O’Shea again, put Dylan O’Brien clear who slotted over another point. An excellent long-range point from Eoin Moynihan ended the first half on a score line of 0-5pts to no score.
Playing against the breeze Carrigaline found the going tough in the early stages of the second half when Valleys pounded the Carrig goal, but with some excellent fielding by Anthony O’Reilly and Jamie Kind, who cleared their lines on numerous occasions much to the cheers of the Carrigaline supporters. Valleys scored two pointed frees to close the gap to three points, but this is when they dug deepest with the half backs, especially Eoin O’Donnell who was outstanding. Carrig again pressed forward to score a point from a good move. This was to be the last score of the game, but with still time on the clock it was hard fought win with every ball contested right to the end. Mickey O’Grady deservedly was captain for the day and received the plaque to the delight of his team mates and supporters.

U13 City Football
Carrigaline’s U13’s football team had two great wins last week-end. They beat Nemo Ranger’s last Saturday in the city football championships with a score line of 2-8 to 1-6. Great displays from Dylan O’Keeffe, David Drake, Liam O’Regan and Oisin Finn. Cian Barry had a man of the match performance on the day. On Sunday last this same team beat Douglas in their south east football match, which was played on home ground.
Carrig’s U13’s second team also put in a good team effort team in their match against Ballinhassig last Sunday. Captain, Niall Martin, gave a great performance, as did Eoin Kavanagh in the forward line, with Ian Lynch and Morgan Hanlon working well in defense, ending on a score line of 5-3 to 3-2 to Carrigaline.
Carrigaline U12’s lost out narrowly to Mayfield last Saturday in the city football championship.
