Many of the underage fixtures had to be postponed last week due to wet weather conditions. However, some teams were able to fit in a few matches.
Fe12B South East Football
Carrigaline Fe12’s continued their winning ways in the south east football league in their match against Courcey Rovers last week. This was a hard physical game, but this team have encountered similar play during the year and performed well showing their strength again. Carrig’s ability to score well gave them a comfortable win.
This team were also in action last Monday night against Sliabh Rua. This was a good game with the Carrig lads putting more scores on the board to come out the winners.
Fe12C South East Football <
Carrigaline 2 overcame St Finbarr’s last Monday in the south east football league. Both teams played well in the first half and seemed fairly even. Carrrigaline took time to settle, but eventually put scores on the board and were slightly ahead at half time.
In the second half, Carrig played with the wind and showed good improvement. The defence were stronger and tighter marking and did not give the Barrs much opportunity to score, leaving Carrig run out comfortable winners.
Fe12C South East Football
During the early part of last week, the Carrigaline 3 team came out on top in their matches against Ballygarvan and Shamrocks in the south east football league. CARRIGALINE GAA CLUB NEWS
By Nathan Wall

After a hectic few weeks with fixtures and managers biting the nails with the hassle of so many matches the past week was a break for a lot of teams. There were only a handful of fixtures played with the Intermediate hurlers, Junior hurlers and the Junior A and B footballers in action. The Intermediate hurlers were narrowly beaten by Eire Og in the league and the Junior A hurlers put in a strong performance but were beaten by 4 points against Tracton on Sunday night in glorious conditions. The Junior 2 footballers beat the Barrs in the city league by a single point and the Junior B footballers were also beaten by a stronger Tracton team last Tuesday night. Our Un21 footballers are in preparation for the South East final against Valley Rovers, which is fixed for Saturday 7th May at 1945 in Ballygarvan.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
On Wednesday last our Junior footballers continued their unbeaten run in the city league. In a close contest with St Finbarrs we ran out winners on a one-point margin after a hard fought game. Starting without some of our regular players Carrig were slow to settle but early scores from Michael O’ Sullivan and Paul Holland settled the team. The barrs were giving their all and were matching Carrig score for score, however Carrigs ability to score goals through Tony O’ Sullivan (2-04) was the difference in the end. Even though playing with the advantage in the second half Carrig still failed to stamp their authority on the game and found it hard to get clear of the Barrs. It was to take a late point from team captain Sean Corkery to maintain our unbeaten record in our hardest game to date. On the day Rory Barret, Wesley O’ Brian, Sean Corkery, Tony O’ Sullivan and Goalkeeper Tony Harris were best for Carrigaline.
INTERMEDIATE HURLING AND JUNIOR HURLING:
Eire Og won this Intermediate Hurling League game played in Ovens on Monday Evening last on a very good pitch despite the torrential rain over the previous 24 hours. Despite a bright opening Carrigaline lost their way especially in the second half when playing with a slight breeze. Their cause was not helped with injuries to Kevin O’ Driscoll after 8 minutes and Ger Cooney just before half time to add to the already long injury list. Carrigaline started well and were soon into their stride with an early goal from Brendan O’ Driscoll and points from Michael O’ Sullivan (0-2), Nicholas Murphy, Eoin De Barra and O’ Driscoll from a free that left the half time score reading Carrig 1-5 Eire Og 0-5. The hurling was scrappy at times but Eire Og were making better use of their chances and despite further points from O’ Driscoll (0-4) and O’ Sullivan but for Carrigaline they lost by the narrowest of margins. Best on the day for Carrigaline was Goalkeeper Brian Irwin, Colin Lynch, Brendan O’ Driscoll and Michael O’ Sullivan. Final Score Carrigaline 1-10 Eire Og 1-11. On Sunday evening last our Junior A Hurling team played Tracton in the league and yet again were narrowly beaten by a stronger Tracton side. Soft scores gave Tracton a 5-point advantage at half time and Carrig fought hard in the second half but couldn’t place the sliothar between the posts. Our cause wasn’t helped after we lost our best player on the field Wesley O’ Brian due to an injury he received during the opening half. Best for Carrigaline on the night was Barry O’ Keeffe, Sean Corkery, Wesley O’ Brian and Brian Scanlon. Final score Carrigaline 1-10 Tracton 2-11.

FÉ 14 Feile Football

Our under 14’s put in a very brave performance against St.Michaels last Friday in the Semi Final of the Feile football. The game was played in a very sporting manner throughout. The Carrig lads started well and dominated the first 15 minutes of the game, but they failed to convert their chances. St.Michaels crept back in to the game with 10 minutes to go to half time. Their midfielders started to dominate and the first major blow occurred on the stroke of half time, when St.Michaels scored a goal to put them one point ahead at half time.
Our lads had to play against the wind in the second half, so possession football was critical to their success. Unfortunately in the first 5 minutes of the second half St.Michaels scored 1-2 and our heads started to drop. Although we did come back to within 3 points of St.Michaels, we never really looked like we were going to do it.
St.Michaels ran out winners in the end with the scoreline 4-8 to 1-8.
There was a lot of disappointment in the camp afterwards, but we should all be proud of the lads as they put in an admirable performance against a very strong St.Michaels side.
Well done lads. Hold those heads up high. There are a lot of competitions to be won yet this year.
While all the lads played well, Stephen Gorman, Cian Barry, David Spillane and Wayne Bruton were outstanding throughout.
Team: Sean Mellett, Shane O’Halloran, Michael O’Donovan, Michael Dwane, Stephen Gorman, Cian Barry, David Spillane, Kaelan Spillane, Wayne Bruton, David Drake, L.O’Regan , Sean Conlon, Dylan O’Keeffe, Oisin Finn, Cian Sisk, R.Duggan, Niall Creed Nolan, E.Kavanagh, P.McGrath, I.Lynch, S.Masterson, N.Martin.

Fe12A City Football League
Carrigaline Fe12’s played a well contested city A football match in Carrigaline last Saturday against table toppers Na Piarsaigh. Carrigaline having narrowly lost to Douglas last week, were well up for the game against Na Piarsaigh. Carrigaline opened brightly with two well taken goals by Eoin O’Donovan, and with all the forwards scoring went in at half time with a lead of 2-4 to 0-1.
As expected Na Piarsaigh threw all they had at Carrigaline in the second half, but through to their character Carrig’s defence held solidly and kept a clean sheet for the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Carrigaline then got in top scoring some well worked passing movements, with Stephen Dwane dominating in the mid field area and linking up well with Robert O’Shea. Carrigaleen finished the game in style winning 3-10 to 1-2.
Team: E. Moynihan, A.O’Reilly, J. Kind. I Silke, M.Lynch, C.McSweeney, E.O’Donnell, S.Dwane, J.O’Keeffe, R.O’Shea, M O’Grady, K.Conlon, E. O’Donovan, K. Kavanagh, D.O’Brien, D.O’Sullivan, M.Quinn, P.Ahern,
D.O’Brien.
Fe12C City Football League
Carrigaline v Mayfield

Last Saturday afternoon Carrigaline played host to a much fancied, unbeaten Mayfield side in the Fe12B Football City League.
The first half began slowly and the sides exchanged a couple of scores. Mayfield forwards settled quicker and made more of the scoring opportunities that came their way and were well ahead mid way through this first half. Gradually Carrigaline pulled the score back to within a point, when disaster struck in the form of two defensive errors, which led to two Mayfield goals. Half time had Mayfield 7 points ahead, but Carrigaline were still in this game.
The second half had Carrigaline expend an awful lot of effort to overhaul Mayfield, but were unable to do so. When Carrigaline were within striking distance Mayfield had to dig deep and their greater experience showed. They didn’t panic and kept the pressure on the Carrigaline defence, who were unable to stop two late goals being scored. This put the game beyond reach. Mayfield still remain unbeaten, but this was their toughest contest yet. Both sides learned a lot from this game.
Fe16 City League
This football league match was played in Togher and St. Finbarr’s came out on top winning by one goal.
South East Football
Fe12B
Carrigaline 3-11 Valley Rovers 2-12

In what was a great performance Carrigaline pulled out all the stops to win a very competitive Fe12 fixture. They dominated from the start and led 2-3 to no score. Valleys fought back to be only two points down at the break.
They took the lead early in the second half with a good goal, but then Carrigaline upped the pace again and scored some excellent points. S. Dwane controlled midfield during the final twenty minutes two points up with minutes to go the Carrigline lads gave away a penalty. Valleys missed and Carrig won the day. Kevin Conlon and M. Lynch had a great game throughout, but this was a great team performance.
Team: D.O’Sullivan, D. Drinan, A. O’Reilly, P. Ahern, M. lynch, M. O’Grady, E. O’Donnell, J. O’Deeffe, S. Dwane, D. Davanagh, E. Moynihan, k. Conlon, E. O’Sonovan, I. Silke, D. O’Brienm, M. Cutrain, C. Diggins.
Fe12C
Carrigaline 2-00 Valley Rovers2 4-03

In a very tight game in this South East Fe12C competition Valley Rovers emerged winners on the scoreboard. However, for their determination, commitment and an overall excellent performance Carrigaline were the moral victors of this match.
The first half began at a fast pace with Carrigaline having the majority of possession, but they were unable to convert this into scores. The half time score was Carrig 1-0 Valley Rovers 2-0.
In the second half Valley Rovers introduced a number of substitutes, which had a telling effect and resulted in Valley Rovers getting some good scores. The turning point came with 10 miutes to go and not much between the teams. As Carrigaline mounted an attack, what seemed to be a valid goal was not allowed. Valley Rovers then counter attacked and the whistle sounded for what appeared to be a free out against them. In fact this free had actually been given the other way, but wasn t apparent until the very quickly taken free ended up in the back of the Carrigaline net.
In the space of 30 seconds, instead of Carrigaline gaining 3 points, they had conceded 3 points. They were unable to recover from this 6 point change of fortune in the remaining time.
When the Final Whistle sounded Valley Rovers were relieved winners.

UNDER 21 ‘A’ SOUTH EAST CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL REPLAY:
Carrigaline are into yet another South East Final after a great second half performance against a very young Ballygarvan team. With 4 minutes on the clock, young Barry O’ Keeffe registered the opening score of the game after a fine pass by his fellow corner forward Tony O’ Sullivan and O’ Keeffe added a 2nd one from a free after six minutes. Tony O’ Sullivan got Carrig’s unanswered score with a superb kick from an acute angel. The Carrig Defence were well on top in the back line and Goalkeeper Matthew O’ Sullivan was very confident under the high balls. Carrig’s early dominance should have put them very ahead put they failed to do so. Ballygarvan got their first point on the 18th minute to only put 2 points between the sides. Then came the first goal of the game, Full Forward Daniel Twomey’s fine effort denied by the woodwork but John Winters who on the night was outstanding, was on hand to shot the ball perfectly into the Ballygarvan net. Soon after this Ballygarvan’s Gary White scored 2 unanswered points to put only a goal between the sides at half time with Carrigaline failing to capitalize on their possession. Carrigaline 1-3 Ballygarvan 0-3. Carrigaline started the better in the second half and from the throw in you could see they wanted the victory. Carrigaline took an early dominance in this half and it was winters that opened the scoring with a well-taken point after he won the kick out. O’ Keeffe got carrig’s second point of the match after he was fouled and he converted the free to punish Ballygarvan. Carrigaline second goal came from the boot of John winters who contributed 2-3 on the night. Moving the ball at a faster pace the Carrigaline lads bombarded the Garvan defence and the outcome was always going to favour the Carrig side. Winters celebrated his goal with another point and Tony O’ Sullivan was denied a goal after a fine save by the Ballygarvan keeper. Carrigalines midfield pairing of Elliot O’ Keeffe and Ronan Hennessy worked very hard for Carrig in bad conditions and they won a lot of the kick outs. Ballygarvan fought hard and never gave up and had two fine efforts rebound off the woodwork, which would have been certain goals. Further points by O’ Keeffe, Michael O’ Sullivan and Tony O’ Sullivan insured that Carrig were deserved Victors on the scoreline of Carrigaline 2-10 Ballygarvan 0-4. Carrigaline now face Valley Rovers in the Final after they narrowly beat Ballinhassig, Date TBA. TEAM: M O’ Sullivan, C O’ Mahony, A O’ Keeffe. INTERMEDIATE HURLING LEAGUE:
The intermediate hurler’s played Killbraittain in their opening game of the league in wet and windy conditions in Carrigaline on Tuesday night. Carrig were missing a few players due to U21 match and injuries but the players who filled the positions did very well. Even though the conditions were poor the quality of hurling was good with a lot of fast and skillful hurling on show. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half with Killbrittain leading by a single point at the break. At the start of the second half Killbrittain went 3 points clear put a great goal by Full forward Ger Cooney brought Carrig back into the match. Carrig went ahead after a Peter Murphy goal and point from Bredan O’ Driscoll. Kilbrittain were finding it very hard to cope with Nicholas Murphy who put in a fine display of hurling at center forward. Killbrittain got a goal from a sideline cut and brought them back into the match and they soon went ahead by a point but a blunder by the Carrig goalkeeper allowed Killbrittain an easy goal. The score at this stage was Carrig 2-7- Killbrittain 2-11. Brendan O’ Driscoll gave Carrig a lifeline with a superb goal from a free but every time carrig scored Killbrittain ruled the score out with a score for themselves. In a very high scoring second half Killbrittain ran out winners on the scoreline of Carrigaline 3-9 Killbrittain 3-16.
JUNIOR ‘A’ HURLING LEAGUE:
Carrigaline played Shamrocks on Thursday evening in the South East League in a Rain soaked Shanbally pitch which was in bad condition from the U21 match the night before. Carrig fielded a very young side and put in a great performance all round to be narrowly beaten by only 4 points. Carrig were led by Shane Barry in Goal, Sean Corkery at Center Back and Wesley O’ Brian in Midfield, all the Carrig players did very well and did themselves and the club proud in a great game. The carrig forwards had numerous chances to get goals but the awful conditions slowed the sliothar down and shamrocks got off the hook. Final score was Carrigaline 0-7 Shamrocks 1-9

CARRIG FOOTBALLERS FAIL TO SPARKLE
BY NATHAN WALL PRO CARRIGALINE GAA CLUB
Last weekend was the start of the Intermediate and Junior football championship for the club. Carrigaline Intermediates played Glenville in the Championship and after a very poor match Carrigaline were beaten, twenty-four hours later the Junior footballers played Tracton in the Junior a South East Championship and after a well-played match were beaten by six points. We must now wait for the back door where we will play the losers of Nemo Rangers and Glanmire and in Junior we now face Kinsale. On Wednesday night the 13th the Under 21 football play Ballygarvan in the Semi Final Replay in Shanbally @ 1845. Best of luck to everyone involved. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Intermediate footballer John Keohane who received a serious injury on Saturday night against Glenville.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP:
In cold bitter conditions in Caherlag on Saturday night Carrigaline Intermediate Footballers played Glenville in the opening round of the Evening Echo Intermediate Championship. From the throw in this was not going to be an easy game for Carrig and in the first minute Glenville converted a pointed free with the aid of a strong wind. Carrigaline had a nervous start and have to thank Neilly Hayes at full back for not allowing Glenville a further advantage. Ken O’ Keeffe replied with Carrigs first point of the match after hard work by Dave Fleming and Nicholas Murphy. Carrigaline were hit with a setback after the loss of John Keohane at half back due to a long term injury and he was replaced by Tom burke. Glenville scored 3 unanswered points from frees and they were dominating the game after ten minutes. Young Barry O’ Keeffe, who was making his debut replied with a well pointed free and Carrig put a point between the sides after Ken O’Keeffe sensibly fisted the ball over the bar after 20 minutes. Another Glenville pointed free put them 2 ahead and Carrig had to be aware that every foul within the 45 would be converted by an excellent Glenville free taker. Yet again Ken O’ Keeffe pointed and the Carrig them began to settle and were winning a lot of the ball. A great block down by Jeff Dillon at center back denied Glenville a certain score. A final score by Glenville at the stroke of half time put them 2 points clear but Carrig had to be the happier going in at the break because Glenville played with a strong wind. Half time score Carrigaline 0-4 Glenville 0-6. Early in the 2nd half Carrig were denied a certain goal after the Glenville full back cleared Barry O’ Keeffes effort off the line. Soon after this his older brother Ken scored an amazing point from a tight angle to put a point between the teams. Another O’Keeffe was introduced when Alan O’ Keeffe replaced the Injured Peter Murphy after 5 minutes of the 2nd half. In the 2nd half the football was very poor and this was not the best game of football to watch. Barry O’ Keeffe leveled the sides after 15minutes from a free and this had to feel confident. Straight from the kick out Ken ‘ Keeffe pointed for Carrig but the referee overruled his umpires and said it was wide when it was clearly a point, if Carrig had got this they would have been in the lead for the first time and the outcome of the match may have been different. Glenville then got a point from play and in the final 10 minutes of the match Glenville kicked 3 points from frees which destroyed the Carrigalines team spirit. Barry O’ Keeffe pointed fro Carrig to put a goal between the sides but this was too late and Glenville won out winners on the scoreline of Carrigaline 0-7 Glenville 0-10. TEAM: M O’Sullivan, K Forbes, N Hayes, C Blake, J Keohane, J Dillon, G Harrington, N Murphy, E Barry, E Murphy, D Fleming, K O’Driscoll, B O’Keeffe (0-3), P Murphy, K O’Keeffe (0-4). Subs: Tom Burke for John Keohane, Alan O’Keeffe for Peter Murphy.
JUNIOR ‘A’ SOUTH EAST CHAMPIONSHIP:
Twenty-four hours after the Intermediate game the Carrigaline Juniors played local rivals Tracton in the South east Championship in Camden and tried very hard to make up for Intermediate loss the night before. Tracton took an early lead after a point from full forward Bernie Kelleher. Carrig started well against a strong Tracton side and Paul Holland opened the scoring for Carrig with a fine point after hard work by Daniel Twomey who was outstanding on the night. Tracton converted a free to put them 2 points to one up after 5 minutes. Tracton were dominating play all over the field and Carrig were not contesting the ball and this made it easy for the Tracton players. Tracton got 3 unanswered easy points to put them four points clear after 17 minutes. Philip Ahern had to be replaced due to an injury and he was replaced by Ollie Conlon who got Carrigs 2nd point from a free after John Winters was fouled. Tracton scored a Goal and a point after this and Carrig needed more fastball to be pumped into the forwards if they wanted any chance of winning. Carrig were given a lifeline after a Daniel Twomey Goal but this was set up by John Mullaney whose effort rattled the crossbar and Twomey was there to finish it off. A Michael Sullivan point put only 3 points between the sides and Carrig began to up their performance, but yet again Tracton punished Carrig with a controversial goal that put Tracton 6 points clear at half time. Carrigaline 1-3 Tracton 2-6. Carrig were the stronger side in the opening minutes of the 2nd half and Michael Sullivan got a superb point for Carrig. A harsh free against Carrig allowed Tracton to register their first point of the half and kicked another 2 points after this. Carrig were playing well and had their chances of scoring a goal but were denied by the Tracton keeper. Paul Holland and John Mullaney scored 2 points for Carrig and Carrig were back in the match, Carrig 1-6 Tracton 2-9. Carrig fought hard in the second half but Tracton took their chances and scored 2 more points in the final five minutes of the match, Ollie Conlon and John Winters replied for Carrig to leave the score line at full time Tracton 2-11 Carrigaline 1-8. Best players for Carrigaline on the night, Tony Harris in Goal, Rory Barrett, Paul Holland, Michael O’ Sullivan and Daniel Twomey.
JUNIOR 2 CITY LEAGUE:
In cold and wet conditions last Tuesday the Junior 2 city team played Nemo Rangers in Carrigaline. From the throw in Carrig were on top of the game and a great effort from Michael O’ Sullivan gave Carrig an early advantage. Soon after this Carrig got 2 unanswered points from Paul Holland after good and hard work from full forward Daniel Twomey who on the the was Carrigs best player at full forward. Nemo were putting a lot of pressure on the Carrig defence but couldn’t get the chance to get points. Carrig were kicking well and got 5 points and Nemo finally got themselves on the scoreboard with 2 points late in the first half. Half time score Carrig 0-7 Nemo Rangers 0-2. The conditions on the night were very bad and the players found it very hard to get to grips with this. In the 2nd half Nemo started the stronger but with Philip Ahern at Center Nemo couldn’t find a way through. Scoring in this half was limited to only 2 points from both teams. Carrig have to thank goalkeeper Tony Harris who made 2 point blank saves to keep Carrig in the lead. Nemo managed to put only 3 points between the teams in the final minutes but the home side upped a gear to deny Nemo a comeback. At the final whistle the score was Carrigaline 0-9 Nemo Rangers 0-4. Players who did well for Carrigaline on the night were Philip Ahern, Paul Holland, Daniel Twomey and Goalie Tony Harris.
Premier Minor Football League:
Carrigaline Minor Footballers went into this match unbeaten in the league and possibly facing one of the best teams in Minor Football, Nemo Rangers. The pitch was in bad condition due to a lot of rainfall but this didn’t effect the high standard of football on show. Carrig got the first score of the match by Alan Jenkinson after an early dominance. You could see the Carrig players were well up for this game and didn’t give the Nemo players an inch of space. Nemo soon replied with 2 points in a row but Carrig never put their heads down. The Carrig defence was outstanding with Joseph Moran and Alan Noonan doing well. A Craig Neville point made it 2 points each. Carrig got the first goal of the match by Cormac Crid Nolan and took the advantage against a very strong wind. Nemo soon upped their game and replied with 2 points but Crid Nolan soon got another Carrig point after some good defensive work by Carrig. Carrigaline were playing some excellent football and Timmy Kenneally got Carrig’s final point of the half to leave Carrig leading by a goal. Carrigaline 1-4 Nemo Rangers 0-4. In the 2nd half Carrigaline came out with all guns blazing and Kenneally’s effort at goal just shaved the post and went wide. The Trabeg team were the first to register a score in the 2nd half with a pointed free but this was evened off with a superb Craig Neville point. A Crid Nolan pointed free made it 1-6 to Nemo’s 0-5. The Carrig backs were blocking down superbly and tracking back well and this worked wonders for them and denied Nemo any chance of dominating the match. Carrig were hit with a major set back when the excellent Alan Noonan had to be replaced due to an injury. Another point from Crid Nolan put 5 points between the teams and this was looking like Carrig were going to have a famous victory, but this was Carrigs last score of the match as Nemo took control after this. Nemo got 2 unanswered points with 5 minutes left on the clock. Carrig worked their hearts out in the backline to try and hold off Nemo but in the last minute Nemo final got that cherished goal which broke the Carrigalines teams hearts. Soon after this the referee blew for full time and the game ended all square. Players who did well were Conor Hayes, Joseph Moran, Colin Touhy, Wesley O’ Brian, Cormac Crid Nolan and Craig Neville.

Fe14 Feile na nOg Football
Fe14 team progressed to the next round of feile peil with an easy win against Carrigtwohill last Sunday. The Carrig lads took control early in the game and never lost it. David Drake opened the scoring with a well taken point from a free. After some tremendous passing football between David Drake and Liam O’Regan the ball fell to Kaelan Spillane, who crossed it across goal where Dylan O’Keeffe pounced to get Carrigaline their first goal. From there on Carrigaline never looked back. Dylan was on fire and ended up scoring 4-1 on the day.
All the lads played very well. David Spillane, Wayne Bruton, Liam O’Regan and Dylan O’Keeffe played well throughout the game. A super performance!
Fe12B City Football League.
St.Finbarr’s 2-5 V Carrigaline 3-12
This game was much tougher than the final score line suggests. The early morning throw in didn’t seem to suit a very lack luster performance during the first half, which saw the Carrigaline lads down 3 points at the break. It could have being a lot more only for some excellent defending from Michael Quinn, Jamie Kind and Eoin O’Donnell.
With the breeze on their backs in the second half Carrig had some excellent points from Dylan O’Brien and two goals from Robert O’Shea, one a great lob of the Barr’s goalie after he dropped his kick out short. These scores put Carrigaline well on the way to victory and with Stephen Dwane in midfield, putting in an excellent performance throughout, Carrig closed out the match comfortably.
Next match in the City League is away against Douglas at 4pm next Saturday. Meet in Club at 3pm.
Please Note: We travel to all matches by car so we would like the parent’s support in helping to bring the lads to and from the games, thank you.

Fe15 City Hurling League
Carrigaline 5-11
Blarney 1-13
Last Friday night Carrigaline Fe15’s played a home match against Blarney in the first round of the city hurling league. Carrig started slowly and only for Mark O’Mahony in goal could have found themselves a goal or two down. Jamie Corcoran and James O’Shea were really working hard in the full back line. Simon O’Brien and Jason O’Leary began to get on top in the middle of the field and soon Carrig seemed to be finding their range with goals from Simon O’Brien and Eoin Conway at full forward. David O’Regan also slotted over a couple of good points. Blarney kept going and also scored some very good long range points. Shane Noonan at wing back was very effective for Carrigaline, as was Jonathan Bermingham at wing forward.
Tony O’Connor as centre back was rock solid all through and Redvers McGrath also battled away and was rewarded with a goal of his own. Carrigaline were guilty of a few basic mistakes, like not letting the ball into the full forward line fast enough, but in fairness to the lads they battled away and ran out the winners in the end. This team will be out against St Finbarr’s next week.
Scorers: Simon O’Brien 2-6, Eoin Conway 2-0, David O’Regan 0-4, Redvers McGrath 1-0, Jason O’Leary 0-1.

CARRIG U21 ‘A’ FOOTBALLERS MUST DO IT AGAIN

By NATHAN WALL PRO
Last Saturday night our U21’A’ Footballers played Local Rivals in the Semi-Final of the South East Championship in Great Conditions in Minane Bridge, with only 5 minutes remaining on the clock and with Carrig 3 points ahead Referee Ken Healy had to abandon the Game as a Carrig player became unwell and needed medical assistance, the game has been refixed for Wednesday 13th April in Minane Bridge at 1845. The weekend ahead sees our Intermediates playing Glenville in the Championship in Caherlag at 1845. Twenty-four hours later our Junior ‘A’ Football team face Tracton in the South East Championship in Camden. Well done also to Joseph Moran who is on the Cork Minor Football panel who play Clare in the Championship on Wednesday night.
INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL LEAGUE:
Last Wednesday night the Intermediate team played Glanmire in the League. In the 1st half carrig started well with in in-form Nicholas Murphy, Eoin de Barra and Ken O’Keeffe starting well for Carrig. Glanmire’s first attack led to the first score of the match. Eoin Murphy was denied a goal after a fine save from the Glanmire keeper who did well on the day and Carrig should have been well ahead but were finding the points hard to come by. Glanmire attacked were and the home team could have been ahead by more only for some good defending by Neilly Hayes and Ciaran Blake and from their hard work in the back line the ball went up the opposite end and Carrig got their first point of the match from the boot of Eoin De Barra. Glanmire dominated after this and got 3 unanswered points to leave the score 4 points to 1 after 15mins. A great point from Kevin O’ Driscoll Jnr gave Carrig the 2nd score of the first half. A Galnmire free put them 3 points ahead going into the break at half time. Scoring was low and both teams were not kicking with conviction. At the resumption the exchanges were even with John Keohane doing well and working hard at half -back. Nicholas Murphy put 2points between the teams from a free but Glanmire evened it out with a superb point. Good passing and hard work from Eoin Murphy and Ken O’ Keeffe, gave Peter Murphy the opportunity to put Carrig back in the match and his fine lob over the keeper went perfectly into the back of the Glanmire net. After this passing from both teams was poor and this didn’t help the flow of the game. Matthew O’ Sullivan denied the home side a goal after a fine save and up the other end moments later O’ Keeffe put Carrig 1 point ahead from a free. Points from de Barra and one final point from Glanmire made it 1-5 to 0-7 points in the final minutes. Glanmire were pilling the pressure on the Carrig defence to get a draw or victory but a solid Carrig defence denied them this. Final Score Glanmire 0-7 Carrigaline 1-5

U21 ‘A’ South East Semi-Final:
This South East championship final had a Pre-mature end on Saturday night last when due to Carrigaline player Eoin O’ Sullivan falling ill the game had to be abandoned with 5 minutes to go. Ballygarvan had started the game the brighter and with 3 early points had Carrig under pressure. Points from Tony O’ Sullivan and the impressive Barry O’ Keeffe got Carrig back into the game. The game was very even right through with both sides giving there all in a great game of football. Carrig had good performances from Dave Cowhig, Gary Harrington, John Winters and young Barry O’ Keeffe and were lucky enough to be 3 points ahead when the game was stopped. Our thanks must go to Referee Ken Healy for his good sense on the night for putting the health of a player above else and to the Ballygarvan club for their help also. Best wishes to Eoin O’ Sullivan and a speedy recover to him.

PREMIER MINOR HURLING LEAGUE:
TUESDAY MARCH 29th V’s MIDDLETON:
On Tuesday 29th April we played Middelton in the hurling league in Carrigaline. Conditions were poor on the night due to a lot of overnight rain but both teams provided an excellent game of hurling. The visiting team had the better of the early exchanges with Carrig finding it slow to settle but a well taken goal from a free by Steven Corcoran got Carrig going. Also playing well for Carrig were Wesley O’ Brian and Peter Ronayne who had the better of the exchanges at midfield. Middleton again started well in the second half but were yet again rocked by another goal from Steven Corcoran. Both teams were now locked in a titanic struggle and gave great entertainment to the supporters from both sides. Carrig’s ability to score goals was the difference in the outcome of this match and they ran out winners 4-13 to Middleton’s 2-11.
MONDAY APRIL 4th V’s Blackrock:
We played Blackrock on Monday last in our third game in the Premier League and kept our unbeaten record to this date. Carrigaline lining out without a few of their regular team gave a great display of hurling on the night and also gave the selectors a few headaches for the next game. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Carrig started well and were soon on the scoreboard with a point from Stephen O’ Regan. This was followed by a pointed free from Stephen Corcoran and only to have Carrig rocked by a fortunate goal for Blackrock. The Carrig lads battled back and points from Wesley O’ Brian, Paul Campbell and Timmy Kenneally had Carrig back in front. Blackrock came back with another point and at the interval Carrig led by a single point. At this stage Blackrock must have been confident of their chances but a Brave Carrig side upped their game and brought the game to the Rockies from the throw in. A long range free from the excellent Conor Hurley was deflected into the net by Stephen O’ Regan and this gave Carrig great heart. This was answered with 3 points from the Rockies but yet again this Carrig side were not to be denied their victory. Further points from Campbell, Tony Murphy, and man of the match Wesley O’ Brian gave Carrigaline a great win. Final Score Carrigaline 1-9 Blackrock 1-5. Well done to all involved with both Minor Hurling teams and the great hard work that you’re putting in.
