Carrigaline Advance in Feile Peil with Two Great Victories

Co Under 14 “A” Feile Football

Bandon 0 – 5 Carrigaline 4 - 16

Carrigaline travelled to Bandon for this eagerly awaited Feile clash on Sunday April 9th. Carrigaline supporters were treated to a top class performance from the team, who were impressive throughout. Carrig set about their business in a determined fashion from the first whistle with Robert O Shea, Morgan Hanlon and Jamie Kind picking off their scores to race into an early lead. All over the pitch the Owenabue side put it up to Bandon with every player playing their part.
Bandon got little change from a mean full back line that fought for every ball. Further out, Chris Allen marshalled his troops to great effect. Cian O Flynn and Morgan Hanlon combined well to give Carrig a platform on which to build. The forwards worked well together to find space and create scores. Thomas Kent, Gary O Mahony, Jamie Kind and Padraic Conway gave the Bandon backs plenty to think about and Luke Hanlon worked tirelessly from the front.
All told, every Carrig player can feel happy to have been part of a hard working team which gave a great display of quality football. Their tremendous work ethic and unselfish play ultimately led to a comprehensive victory and a meeting with Fermoy in the next round. Well done lads!

Carrigaline 3 – 13 Fermoy 2 – 5

Fermoy were the visitors to Carrigaline for this Feile clash on Easter Monday with a place in the County semi-final at stake.
Fermoy , aided by a strong breeze, got off to a great start and raced into a commanding lead of 2-3 to 0-0 after fifteen minutes. At this stage Carrig began to find their rhythm and got a great boost when mid-field dynamo Cian O Flynn found the back of the Fermoy net. Three further points before half-time, one a great solo effort from Jamie Kind, saw Carrig going in at the interval trailing by four points 2-4 to 1-3.
A good start to the second half was essential and Carrig got just the tonic when corner-forward Robert O Shea latched onto a pass from Luke Hanlon to flick the ball to the Fermoy net. Game on!
Fermoy responded and broke through the Carrig defence for what looked a certain goal. However, Stephen O Flynn pulled off a super save to keep the deficit to one point. That was the last sight of goal that Fermoy got as the Carrig defence, superbly marshalled by Ciaran Malone at full-back and Chris Allen at centre-back put up the shutters. Corner men Anthony O Reilly and Stephen Dwane were superb and the wing-backs Cillian McSweeney and Diarmuid Hickey never put a foot wrong.
Luke Hanlon and Cian O Flynn took control at midfield and a succession of points from play between the 6th and 15th minutes saw Carrig take a commanding lead of 2-9 to 2-4. The Carrig half –forward line of Jamie Kind, Morgan Hanlon and Thomas Kent began to play havoc with the Fermoy defence and when Jamie Kind struck for Carrig’s third goal in the 20th minute it opened up an eight-point gap. In the full-forward line Rob O Shea was really buzzing and was ably assisted by Padraic Conway, Michael Lynch and substitute Kevin Kavanagh.
Other invaluable panel members who didn’t play on the night were Paul Molloy, Gary O Mahony, David Kinsella, Colin Keating and Martin Molloy.
This was a great team display and each and every player did his bit to record a tremendous victory. The team now move onto the County semi-final where they will face opponents from the city division. If they can reproduce this display then they have every chance of progressing. Well done to players and management and best of luck in the semi-final.( Watch Club notice boards for details of the semi-final fixture )

City Fe 15 Hurling League
Carrigaline 2 – 10 Barrs 1 – 5
An excellent last twenty minutes of hurling saw Carrig emerge victorious in this Section 1 clash at Carrigaline on Saturday April 8th.
Following a low-scoring and evenly contested first period the teams retired at the interval on level terms. The second half began with the Barrs in the ascendancy and they forged into a four points lead with twenty minutes remaining.
At this juncture Carrig came thundering into the game and proceeded to hold their opponents scoreless for the remainder of the half whilst scoring 2 – 6 themselves.
Cian Sisk and Oisin Finn put up the shutters in the full backline while Sean Conlon had an outstanding game at midfield.
Up front full-forward Michael O Donovan led the way with a fantastic tally of 1 – 5
in what was a great team effort.

South-East Fe 16 C Football League

Carrigaline 5 – 6 Ballygarvan 1 – 8
Neighbours Ballygarvan were the visitors on Wednesday April 5th for this under 16 football game. Carrig’s ability to score goals at vital stages of the game proved decisive.
Eoin Conway, playing at full-forward, had an outstanding game and tormented the Ballygarvan defence with his ball-winning ability and excellent distribution. He was ably assisted by Eoin Kavanagh who helped himself to two goals from the corner-forward position.
Stephen Gorman was brilliant at centre-back and was the rock on which many of the Ballygarvan attacks foundered. All in all it was a great team performance against a good Ballygarvan side.

Carrigaline 2 – 7 Ballinhassig 2 - 5
On Wednesday April 12th it was the turn of Ballinhassig to visit Carrigaline. It was great to see Sean Mellett back between the posts for Carrig after a long injury lay-off and he was his old dependable self, making some fine saves to help Carrig to a narrow victory. Shane O Halloran was excellent at centre-back while Dylan O Keeffe at wing-forward and corner-forward Redvers McGrath, who helped himself to a goal and a point, were also outstanding.
South-East Fe 12 C Football League

Crosshaven 7 - 6 Carrigaline 2 - 1

On Monday April 3rd Carrigaline U12 C football team faced very strong opponents when they took on near-neighbours Crosshaven at Camden. The Crosshaven team won the toss and got off to a very good start playing with a very strong wind. It took some time for the Carrigaline boys to adjust but when they did they played very well. Darragh Corcoran in particular was very strong in mid field.
In the second half Carrigaline played a lot better with Brian Lynch and Sean O Brien playing very well in the back positions. Again Matthew O Reilly demonstrated sublime skill and scored Carrigaline’s two goals.
In the end Crosshaven were just too strong but it was a very good learning experience for a very young Carrigaline side.

On Monday 10th April this very young Carrigaline side faced a very strong Ballinhassig team in the South-East League. The first half was very close with Carrigaline staying in touch through goals from Mathew O Reilly and very well taken points from Darragh Corcoran. Jack Murphy and Luke Garvin were very strong in the back line supported by the brilliant Fiachra Hurley who made some outstanding saves in goal.
In the second half the stronger Ballinhassig side pulled away but not without a very tough fight from this dedicated Carrigaline side. Notable in defence were David Quirke for his tough challenges and hustling for the ball and Darren Sisk for his tenacious presence in the half forward line. In the end it was not to be but Carrigaline can hold their heads up high after a very good team performance.

City Fe 11 Football League

Our under 11 footballers played two games in the City during the past week. While defeat was their lot in both games, great team spirit was shown and some outstanding individual performances were noted.

On Tuesday week last a depleted Carrigaline side faced a very strong Brian Dillons in the City League. The wind favoured Brian Dillons in the first half and they took full advantage of it. Carrigaline’s defence was on the back foot and faced the onslaught with true team spirit. Particularly strong in defence were Luke Garvin, Sean O Brien and Aodan Cotter.
In the second half, Carrigaline started to put some constructive moves together. Particularly good in midfield were Daniel O Reilly(who made some lovely solo runs), Brian Lynch and Kieran Kavanagh. A goal once again from Mathew O Reilly helped lift the Carigaline spirits but Brian Dillons just proved too strong on the night.

On Easter Saturday Carrigaline played one of their best games so far this season against St. Michaels in the City League. The commitment and technical skill of this young team was a joy to watch. The man marking was very good with Cormac Hickey and Sean Brophy doing all in their power to stop the St. Michaels attack. Killian O Mahoney made some very good saves in goal helped on a number of occasions by Darragh Buckley. Gary Field in the forward line had a couple of very good chances but he was smothered out by a very strong St. Michaels defence.
In the second half Carrigaline continued with their gutsy performance and David Keating and Brian Coakley were a constant threat in the forward line with Brian scoring a very good point from play. Once gain Mathew O Reilly was our main goal scorer with some driving runs from mid field and clinical finishing putting the ball in the back of the net. In the end it was not to be but Carrigaline can be proud of their efforts in an excellent team performance.

City Fe 13 Football League

Carrigaline 3 – 10 Nemo 3 – 6

A heavy downpour before the game made underfoot conditions very difficult in this game played at Carrigaline on Saturday April 8th. However both teams adapted well and served up an exciting game of football.
Nemo started well and rattled Carrig with two early goals. Carrig responded in great fashion and took some excellent scores to lead at the interval on a scoreline of 1 – 8 to
2 – 0.
Carrig began the second half in determined mood as they faced into a strong breeze and soon had added a goal and two points to their tally. Nemo came back strongly in the last quarter and reduced the deficit but a great goal from Carrig corner-forward Conor Cremin sealed the win for the home side.
David Drinan was outstanding for Carrigaline as he notched three points from play.
Others to shine in a great team performance were Jamie Kind, John O Keeffe and Michael McIntyre.

Carrigaline 4-8 Bishopstown 5-9

Carrigaline travelled to Bishopstown during the week with a large squad of 13year olds. The policy of the U-13 management team to play all their panel in the city games is proving very worthwhile, regardless of how games are going. The game itself was competitive from the start with the home side putting some early scores on the board and led at the break 3-5 to 0-3. Carrig stormed back in the second period and playing some wonderful football they clawed their way back into the game and at final whistle were only four points adrift of a strong Bishopstown team.

City Fe 13 Hurling League.

Carrigaline 1-4 Na Piarsaigh 0-9.

The first hurling game of the year proved to be a good hard game, with both sides giving their all. The visitors physical strength around the pitch proved to be the difference between the sides at the end. Carrigaline’s six defenders and goalkeeper Eoin O’Donovan were awesome and as a unit gave a great display of heart and commitment. Carrig did have their chances in front of the Na Piarsaigh goal but failed to take them. Kevin Conlon scored the games only goal and Robert O’Shea knocked over Carrig’s 4 pts.

Panel: Kevin Kavanagh, Anthony O’Reilly, David Drinan, Darragh O’ Sullivan, Stephen Dwane, Robert O’Shea, Brian Curran, Jamie Kind, Dylan O’Brien, Michael Lynch, Cillian McSweeney, Michael Curtin, Andrew Thomas, Michael O’Grady, Eoin O’Donovan, C.Cremin, K.Conlon, E.O’Donnell, M.Quinn, C.Diggins, J.
