Under 14 Hurling League Champions
South East U-14 Hurling League semi-final
Carrigaline v Sliabh Rua
Carrigaline returned to Crosshaven for another semi-final on Wed last for the second time in a week. The Owenabue side had too much for Sliabh Rua on this occasion. J O Keeffe had a fine game in the forwards and looked dangerous every time he had the ball. R O Shea and S Caffrey also stood out in the forward division. C Malone and L Hanlon never put a foot wrong and M Hanlon, D Hickey and J Kind also hurled well. In the end Carrigaline ran out comfortable winners.
South East U-14 Hurling League Final
Carrigaline 6-11 Courcey Rovers 1-3
Carrigaline travelled to Kinsale for a keenly awaited league final on Friday last. Carrigaline were not to disappoint their support, as they put in a commanding performance. The early exchanges were close and points from Ciaran Malone, Robert O Shea and Cian O Flynn saw Carrig leading 0-5 to 0-2 after twenty minutes of play. Two goals in two minutes for Carrig put substantial daylight between the teams by the twenty-fifth minute. The first was a great individual effort from full-forward Cian O Flynn while centre-forward Robbie O Shea struck the second from a close-in free.
Courceys efforts to respond were thwarted by ice-cool goalkeeping from Eoin Moynihan and great defensive work by the Carrig backs. Anthony O Reilly, Morgan Hanlon and Jamie Kind were towers of strength in the full-back line while the half-back line of Cillian McSweeney, Chris Allen and Diarmuid Hickey kept a very tight rein on their opponents. Cillian was everywhere in that first half displaying some sublime stickwork as he swept up plenty of loose ball to launch relieving clearances from defence.
Although Carrig were playing well in patches they also gave their opposition a little too much space in the first period. At half-time Carrig led by 3-6 to 1-2, the third goal coming from the stick of wing-forward John O Keeffe following a great solo-run.
Carrigaline came out with the right attitude in the second period and with the back division on top the Courcey forwards found it difficult to register scores. The wholehearted display of the Carrig team was typified by captain Luke Hanlon who made a full length diving block to inspire his team. Robert O Shea was a constant threat and John O Keeffe and Michael Lynch also registered scores. When Michael broke through the Courcey rearguard to kick the ball to the net early in the second half the title was heading to Carrig. Kevin Kavanagh and Padraic Conway also played their part, with Kevin striking a fine goal in the second period. Substitute Alan Cooney even found time to raise the green flag and Carrig had done enough to record a fine victory. If Carrigaline can maintain this form and work hard in training they will be a match for any side.
. Referee, Donie Harris (Douglas) did an excellent job.
Co Under 14 Feile Peil semi-final Carrigaline 2-9 St Michaels 3-8
Carrigaline took on a strong St. Michaels side in the semi-final of the Feile Peil at Crosshaven. Following a brave and committed display by the Carrig lads, the reigning champions were relieved to come away with a narrow victory at the end of a great hour’s football.
At half-time Michaels led on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-3 and looked set to record a comfortable victory. In that first half Carrig had played into the elements and bravely withstood the pressure exerted on them. Stephen O Flynn was very dependable in goal making a number of splendid saves. The full-backline of Anthony O Reilly, Ciaran Malone and Stephen Caffrey were defiant, making timely interceptions and courageous block-downs. Half-backs Cillian McSweeney, Chris Allen and Diarmuid Hickey worked tirelessly and were rarely beaten. In the forward line corner men Martin Molloy and Rob O Shea were working hard but were being closed down quickly by a physically powerful Michaels defence. Injuries to Anthony O Reilly and industrious wing-forward Thomas Kent saw them being replaced at the interval by Peter Bresnan and Stephen Dwane respectively.
Carrigaline came out for the second half in determined mood and produced a magnificent opening five minutes to cut the deficit to a single point. Cian O Flynn started the fight-back with a pointed free and moments later the same player rifled the ball into the top of the net to put Carrig back in the game with a vengeance. Further points by Luke Hanlon and Jamie Kind left a solitary point in the game. Michael’s tried to retaliate but Carrig’s defence were in determined mood and weren’t conceding scores easily. Carrig took the lead with a quarter of an hour to go courtesy of a Jamie Kind goal to leave the score at 2-6 to 1-8. Michaels got through for a goal with eight minutes to go to put them two points ahead. Carrigaline responded with a point from Morgan Hanlon. Substitute Michael Lynch who had replaced the hard-working Padraic Conway then got the equaliser and Rob O’Shea edged Carrig ahead again. With time running out Michaels had the final say and goaled to break Carrig hearts.
St Michaels went on to successfully defend their Feile title with a narrow victory over city rivals Na Piarsaigh in the final.

City Under 13 Hurling League
Carrigaline 2-9 Blackrock 2-5
Blackrock were visitors to Carrigaline on Saturday last to take on the home side in what was a repeat of the 2005 Under-12 County Hurling final. In a closely-contested affair Carrig confirmed their superiority over the Rockies with a four point victory. There were some lovely passages of skilful hurling from both sides in an entertaining game.
County Under 12 Football
Carrigaline 2-10 Beara 2-6
On Saturday last Carrig took on divisional side Beara in the quarter-final of the under-12 County Football Championship. Following a close and exciting contest Carrigaline advanced to the County semi-final with a well-merited four point win.
Faulty shooting in the first period nearly proved costly with Carrig registering eleven wides. Some astute switches by the Carrig mentors improved matters greatly and in the second half a great team effort saw Carrig through.
Darragh Corcoran, when switched to centre-back, had an outstanding game and he was ably assisted by brilliant wing-back Aidan O Flynn. The switch of Brian Lynch from the fullback line to wing-forward was another move that paid rich dividends as he proceeded to give the Carrig attack greater menace.
Super-sub David Healy, who was introduced at the interval, scored a goal and a point while Jamie Depuis was the other Carrig goalscorer. Cillian McIntyre weighed in with four points and Peter Mullane notched three. Conor Gould also got on the scoresheet with two points.
Carrigaline now advance to play Macroom in the County semi-final on Saturday next at a time and venue to be announced. Best of Luck lads!
Cork Primary Game Hurling Team
Congratulations to Robert O Shea who was a member of the Cork Primary Game hurling team which played Clare at Semple Stadium on Sunday last at half-time in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship game between Cork and Clare.
Robert, a sixth-class pupil in Scoil Mhuire Lourdes, played at wing-forward on the Cork Primary team. This was a well-deserved honour for Robert as he is one of the most dedicated and skilful players in the Carrigaline club.
