Under 12 Hurling County Quarter-Final
Blarney 6-13 Carrigaline 3-7
On Saturday last the Under 12 hurlers travelled to Blarney to take on the home side in the County quarter-final. Though short a few regulars Carrig were confident of giving a good account of themselves. However on a sweltering hot afternoon nothing went right for them and they suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of an excellent Blarney side.
After the opening twenty minutes nobody could have foreseen the final outcome as the teams were very evenly matched and the score stood at Blarney 1-2 Carrigaline
0-4. All Carrig’s scores had come from placed balls and all were scored by Conor Gould. Suddenly Blarney hit a purple patch and in the space of eight minutes notched
3 goals and 5 points without reply from Carrig. In the twenty-eight minute Conor Gould blasted a close-in free to the back of the Blarney net but the hopes of a revival were short-lived as the home side hit back for another goal and a point before half-time to leave the score Blarney 5-8 Carrigaline 1-4 at the short whistle.
Carrigaline got a tonic start to the second half when Cillian McIntyre found the net in the first minute but that was as good as it got because Blarney hit back with a goal of their own in the third minute. Carrig did outscore their opponents in the second period, 2-3 to 1-5, but never looked like bridging the huge half-time deficit. Substitute Brian Coakley scored a lovely goal in the 24th minute and Robert Foster completed the Carrig scoring in the final minute with a point from play. Well done to Blarney on an excellent display and in the person of midfielder Barra O Connell they had the best player on view. For Carrig, goalie Shane Griffin could not be faulted and he made some excellent saves while his namesake at full-back also had a good outing. Centre-back Cillian McIntyre and full-forward Robert Foster never gave up and wing-forward Jamie Depuis was also prominent.
Carrig can now re-group and focus their attention on the upcoming SE Final where they will face either Ballinhassig or Valley Rovers.

Carrig under-12 hurlers travelled to Ballinhassig on Tuesday June 27th to take on the home side in the SE semi-final. In a game that was closely contested throughout Carrig eventually emerged winners by a comfortable margin.

It was a ding-dong battle in the second half as the home side tried in vain to bridge the gap. Conor Gould, who was ably assisted at midfield by Kevin O Connell, twice found the net. Carrig’s other goals came from Jamie Depuis and substitute Kevin Harrington.

ALL-IRELAND `A` U-16 HURLING TOURNAMENT CARLOW
(Report by Kevin O Brien)

Last Saturday we travelled to Carlow to take part in the u-16 All-Ireland hurling tournament. We left Carrigaline at 7.30 with a panel of 20 players and a number of supporters. We arrived at 10.30 in plenty of time for our first match. We were placed in the A section with Rathnure (Wexford), Camross (Laois), Birr (Offaly) and Cuala (Dublin).
Panel: Mark O Mahony, Jamie Corcorran, Daniel Bagnall, Brian Twomey, Shane Noonan, Tony O Connor, Brian Dorgan, Jason O Leary, Simon O Brien (capt), James Crowley, David O Regan, James Mc Carthy, Eoin Conway, James Sheppard, Adrian Lynch, Jonathan Bermingham, Gearoid Harrington, Timmy Byrne, Chris Allen and Dylan O Keeffe.

Carrigaline 2-06 Rathnure 1-01

First up was Rathnure who we beat on a scoreline of 2-06 to 1-01. Scorers were Simon O Brien 2-02 , David O Regan 0-2, James Mc Carthy 0-2 and Adrian Lynch 0-1. We were slow to start but the lads said this was due to the early start and the long bus trip. Daniel Bagnall at full back was a tower of strength all through and Mark O Mahony in goal was outstanding. James Sheppard and Eoin Conway worked their socks off and provided some quality possession for the forwards around them. Gearoid Harrington and Dylan O Keeffe also contributed to a deserved victory.

Carrigaline 1-03 Camross 0-04

Our second game was against Camross who caused us a lot of problems with their strong style of hurling but in fairness to the backs they came up trumps with super displays by Brian (thou shalt not pass) Twomey and Jamie (the Blocker ) Corcoran. This game will be remembered for some time to come for the goal that was scored just as we reached full time. Shane Noonan cleared the sliotar up the wing to Adrian Lynch who gave a peach of a pass to Simon O Brien at mid –field. He took off like a hare skipping a few solid challenges to rifle the sliotar to the roof of the net - game over and a win for Carrig by 2 points. The young Chris Allen also played his part at corner forward on the day.
As the Dublin club Cuala failed to show on the day we now had a break which was welcome as the weather was very warm. A lot of the lads went to watch Birr play Camross where they saw Birr score 5 goals and 8points against them. Birr were next up and they were very confident of beating Carrigaline but the management and entire panel had other ideas.

Carrigaline 1-07 Birr 0-03

Carrig were out of the blocks very early in this game with a few early points on the board . Birr were finding it very hard to get past our half back line of Brian Dorgan, Tony O Connor and Shane Noonan and if they did manage to get through the full back line were waiting for them. Jason O Leary and Timmy Byrne were keeping the sliotar moving in the forward line. James McCarthy scored two fabulous points from play which were created by the industrious James Sheppard.
Having beaten a fancied Birr side we had a semi-final match with Ahane (Limerick). Having played them two years ago in the Feile finals where they well and truly beat us, the lads were really looking forward to it.

Carrigaline 1-03 Ahane 1-06

In the semi-final we were slow to start but we were still holding our own. Gradually Ahane put a few points on the board and at half time led 1-04 to 0-1 . A few encouraging words from both Tom Jones and capt Simon O Brien at half time seemed to do the trick, because within 5 minutes of the start of the second half two points from David O Regan and another by James Mc Carthy had only a goal between the sides. Then when James Sheppard’s goal effort was stopped by the Ahane goalkeeper, James Crowley was first to react and made no mistake in planting the ball in the net. With only 2 minutes left Ahane scored a 65 and then a long range free to win by three points
We were out but the results on the day were excellent and the lads and supporters really enjoyed themselves. We saw same terrific hurling and it was nice to play matches against teams from other counties. Well done lads. I would also like to thank all the people who travelled to support us on Saturday. I know they enjoyed the matches as much as the players.
