The side was somewhat depleted with only 16 players present. However they gave a very good account of themselves against a physically stronger Courceys side. Carrigaline played against the breeze in the first half and fell behind as Courceys scored a number of goals. The half-time score was Courceys 5-3 Carrigaline 1-1. Ballygarvan 1-3 Carrigaline 2-12

The under 15’s travelled to Ballygarvan on Wednesday last to take on the home side in the SE Under 16 C league and came away with a well-merited victory.
Ballygarvan came out of the blocks quicker and scored two early points. Carrigaline were a bit off the pace in the early stages but Podge Conway, D Hickey and S Caffery pulled them out of their slumber. The half time score of 1.2 to 1.5 reflected the even nature of the contest. Carrig didn’t repeat their mistake of the first half and started better in the second period, although they were a bit wasteful in front of goal in the early stages. With C Malone and C Keating providing a fine foundation at the back Carrig wrestled control of the game from Ballygarvan. S Caffery’s tigerish play in the second period was a feature of the game as was the point taking ability of Gazza O Mahony. Doc O Callaghan was always a danger around the goal and Carrig ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Under 16 Football
Two victories were recorded during the past week, over Nemo in the City league and over Ballinhassig in the SE league.
Nemo 1-7 Carrigaline 0-15
Carrigaline travelled to Trabeg to take on Nemo on Tuesday April 10th.Carrig gave a brilliant display of football in the first half and led by six points at half-time. Following the sending-off of a Carrigaline player early in the second half Nemo began to force the pace. Their attacks were repulsed by an outstanding defence in which goalkeeper, Sean Mellett and the half-back trio of David Spillane, Cian Barry and Chris Allen were superb. Kaelan Spillane, Eoin Kavanagh and Oisin Finn were excellent all through in a great team display.

Carrigaline 4-12 Ballinhassig 0-4
On the following evening Ballinhassig were the visitors in the SE league. David Drake gave a brilliant performance in this game to maintain Carrig’s unbeaten record in the Carrigdhoun league. There were also some outstanding displays from a number of the younger players on the team. Under 11 Footballers Remain Unbeaten

All of our football teams saw action during the past week. The under-11’s maintained their unbeaten run, winning two Carrigdhoun games and one in the City league. The under 12’s found the going a little tougher and came up against very strong opposition in their matches, losing heavily in two but notching a morale-boosting win in the third. The under 13’s had a great win over Blarney while the under 15’s played and lost two games. The under 16’s had better fortune, drawing a City league game and winning one in Carrigdhoun. The under 14’s were left without a game at the weekend, receiving a late walkover from Clonakilty in the Feile Peil having deferred a SE league game on Friday. They finally got into action on Monday evening, scoring a comfortable win over Mayfield in the City league

Under 12 Football

A depleted team shipped two heavy defeats in the SE and City leagues against Valley Rovers and Ballincollig respectively. They enjoyed a change of fortune on Monday evening with a well-deserved win over Kinsale in the SE league.

SE Fe 12 B FL Valley Rovers v Carrigaline

The opening match of this years U12 southeast football competition saw these two great rivals come head to head. Valley Rovers started from where they finished last year and showed great skill and blistering pace both on and off the ball. Carrigaline put on a very strong display with Killian O Mahoney excellent in goal supported by a very strong back line of Luke Garvin, Cormac Hickey and Sean O Brien.
In the second half Carrigaline got on the ball more and started to play freely, stringing some good passes together. An excellent goal from newcomer Dean O Leary (fisted into the goal after an excellent cross from Stephen Maguire) followed up be a very good point from Darragh Corcoran showed the potential of this team.
Special mention on the night must go to Colin Maguire who showed great game awareness and played his heart out.

Under 13 Football

City Fe 13 FL(1) Carrigaline 6-13 Blarney 4-2
On Saturday last Blarney were the visitors to the banks of the Owenabue and they found the home side in top form and could do little to prevent a 6-13 to 4-2 defeat.
Team captain Peter Mullane and midfield partner Kevin O Connell were outstanding throughout. Chris Kelleher, who scored a great goal, Jason Brady and Kevin Harrington were others to shine in a great team performance.

Under 14 Football

Under 15 Football

SE Fe 16 C FL Sliabh Rua 6-6 Carrigaline 4-11
Carrigaline lost out by the narrowest of margins last Wednesday evening in their first match of the South East campaign. Carrigaline started the better of the two sides ,but it was to remain a tight affair throughout. David Kinsella was electric in the opening few minutes and registered 1-1 with his clever running. Cian O Flynn and Morgan Hanlon formed a solid partnership in the opening half from which D McCarthy and J Glennon helped to link the play and create opportunities for others. Carrig went in at half time leading 2-5 to 2-3. The second half proved to be an exciting affair as the lead changed hands several times. Eoin Brennan got on the score sheet as did Padraic Conway and Cian O Flynn. The game looked gone from Carrig as Sliabh Rua led by six points with time running out, but through the herculean efforts of Ciaran Malone, in particular, Carrig got to within a point. However, on this occasion Sliabh Rua took the spoils.

City Fe 15 FL(1) Nemo 3-9 Carrigaline 2-8

Carrigaline travelled to Nemo in this City fixture played last Saturday evening. Carrig faced a strong breeze in the opening period, but battled well and at half time were 4 points in arrears on a score line of 1-6 to 1-2. Carrigaline started the second half brightly with “Doc” O Callaghan’s well taken poacher’s effort. Stephen O Flynn had an excellent game in goal with solid handling throughout particularly in the second period. Frees from Chris Allen and Morgan Hanlon took Carrig to within a point. However, credit to Nemo who pulled away again with strong running and well worked scores. Best on the day for Carrig were C Allen, C Malone, C Keating S Caffrey and D Kinsella.

Under 16 Football

City Fe 16 FL(1) Douglas 0-6 Carrigaline 0-6
The under 16’s took on Douglas in a City league game at Douglas on Tuesday last and following a low-scoring encounter, shared the spoils with the home side, 0-6 apiece. Carrig led 0-5 to 0-3 at half-time but could only add a solitary point in the second period. It was a game in which defences dominated but Carrig’s failure to avail of second-half chances cost them the victory. Best for Carrig were Shane O Halloran, Wayne Bruton and Cian Barry in an outstanding half-back line

SE Fe 16 B FL Crosshaven 1-3 Carrigaline 3-9
They made the short journey to Crosshaven on the following evening to take on the home side in the SE league. O’REILLY EARNS CARRIGALINE A DRAW
Junior Football Championship
Carrigaline1-8 Belgooly 0-11
James O’Reilly earned Carrigaline a deserved draw with a late penalty save in their first game in this years championship. In a game which Carrigaline could have won they battled right to the end and the draw earns them another bite at the cherry. Trailing by a point at half time thanks to a goal close to half time from the lively Marc Doody, Carrig were always in with a chance of causing an upset. The loss of Stephen O’Regan was a blow to Carrig but Daniel Twomey played well out in the middle of the park when brought out while sub Kyle Meehan was always a threat. The Carrig half back line were to the fore throughout ensuring plenty of ball for the forwards.
Carrigaline stuck to their task in the second half but found scores hard to come by. Gary Harrington was excellent at centre back and Shane Barry swept up everything in the full back line until being forced off by injury. A couple of Meehan points kept carrigaline and with time starting to run out a victory was on the cards. Unfortunately Belgooly had other ideas and drew level with time almost up. Then came the highlight of the match when Belgooly were awarded a penalty with time almost up, carrigaline were staring defeat in the face only for James O’Reilly to pull off a wonderful save and bring carrigaline back to Ballygarvan on the 18th for the replay.

U21’S BOW OUT AFTER REPLAY
U21 Football Semi- Final
Carrigaline 2-9 Valley Rovers 1-12
REPLAY
Carrigaline 1-7 Valley Rovers 0-11

Carrigaline bowed out of this years U21 Championship in Belgooley on Sunday
evening but it certainly wasn’t for the lack of effort on their part. It took 120 minutes
of football to separate these teams thanks to Tony Murphys last minute goal in the first game. The replay started much the same as the drawn game with Carrigaline taking control early in the game. Playing with the wind Carrig had three points on the board before Valleys scored. Then Tony O’Sullivan scored a penalty to put some daylight between the teams coming up to half time.
The second half was nip and tuck for much of it and Carrig were playing well with J Moran having moved to midfield to assist S O’Regan and R Keohane moving in amongst the backs to help disrupt the Rovers attack. With 5 minutes to go substitute N Coakley slotted a point over for Carrigaline, but hearthbreak was to follow when Valleys equalised right on full time and then deep into injury time scored the winning point to end Carrigalines interest in the U21 Championship.
Well done to all those involved in the three games they played a tremendous effort was put in to try and win the game right up to the last kick.
Replay Team: M Webb, C Tuohy, G Harrington, C Hurley, C Lynch, P Ronayne,
A Noonan, R Keohane, S O’Regan, C Neville, W O’Brien, T Murphy,
C Creed-Nolan, J Moran, T O’Sullivan.
Subs: N Coakley, K Meehan.

Intermediate Hurling O’Murchu Cup
Carrigaline 1-13 Kilbrittan 1-14

Carrigaline lined out mius a number of regulars due to the U21 game but still gave an excellent account of themselves in this O’Murchu Cup game. Playing with the aid of a strong wind in the first half Carrig used the elements well and would have been more the 4 points ahead at half time only for a number of wides they shot. It took a while to settle playing against the wind in the second half but a strong finish which was the result of an excellent workrate around the pitch carrig came within a point of drawing this game and it would have been no more than they deserved.
Team: B Irwin, K Curran, A O’Keeffe, E O’Sullivan, B O’Driscoll, K O’Driscoll,
J Cowhig, M Cuddihy, A Kelly, E Cogan, E O’Keeffe, P Donnellan, S Corcoran,
P Foster, S O’Brien.

Junior 2 City League
Carrigaline3-11 Whites Cross 5-5
Carrigaline had to be content with a draw in this city league game after controlling much of this game. The concession of some soft goals early in the second half was their downfall but to their credit they fought back and were unlucky in the end not to win. Carrig played some excellent football in the first half and only for the wides they struck would have had a greater lead at the break. As it was Carrig led at the break 0-7 to 1-2. With the scores coming from Harrington, Cogan, Irwin twice, deady, Holland and Houlihan.
The start of the second half was to be Carrigs downfall conceding 2-3 without reply. But the lads never gave up and a goal from a specultive J Bray lob brought Carrig back into the game. Carrig upped the ante and further goals from Deady and Murphy brought Carrigaline level. Again they left Whites Cross back into the game by conceding another goal but points from Irwin Houlihan and Deady Carrig secured the draw and proved they can be a match for any team in the division.
Team: S O’Hanlon, J Roberts, A O’Keeffe, TJ Cronin, J Bray, J Walsh, P Moran,
C Corkery, E Cogan, E Harrington, P Holand, S Deady, W Ronayne, C Irwin, B Houlihan.
Subs: T Hobbins, A Murphy.

Junior A Football Championship
This year Championship geys under way for Carrigaline on Easter Monday at 2.30pm in Ballygarvan against Belgooly so please come out and support the lads.
