Under-14 Feile Hurling Semi-Final
Carrigaline 0-7 Douglas 2-9
Carrigaline travelled to Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday evening last hoping to avenge their defeat by Douglas in the Feile Peil a few weeks ago but again suffered the disappointment of defeat at the penultimate stage. Douglas were worthy winners and will be determined now to achieve a notable Feile double when they face Blackrock in the final.
A goal for Douglas just before half-time was a vital score for them as it opened up a five-point lead and gave Carrig a mountain to climb in the second half. Carrig fought back bravely in that second period but a second Douglas goal five minutes from the end sealed the win for them.
Carrig scorers: Cillian McIntyre, Cillian McSweeney, Michael Lynch, 0-2 each and Robert O Shea 0-1.

SE Under-12 Football Final
Carrigaline took on Valley Rovers in the SE Football Final at Belgooly on Monday evening last. An exceptionally strong Valleys side cruised to a comfortable win over a gallant Carrig team.
For Carrig goalkeeper Adam Cleary made some excellent saves throughout the hour and the backline led by Luke Garvin at full-back and centre-back Mark O Shea fought valiantly to stem the tide. The midfield duo of Stephen Maguire and Darragh Corcoran were superb while Jack Murphy never gave up at wing-forward. Brian Lynch scored a great goal and Sean O Brien made some timely interceptions in the full-backline
Carrigaline: Adam Cleary, Danny Cremen, Luke Garvin, Sean O Brien, Cormac Hickey, Mark O Shea, Aodan Cotter, Stephen Maguire, Darragh Corcoran, Jack Murphy, Brian Lynch, David Keating, Mark O Driscoll, Killian O Mahony, Darren Sisk, Jared Fitzgerald, John Duggan, Daniel McCarthy, Craig Garvin, Hlumelo Maqubela, Donal O Neill, Colin Maguire.

City Under-11 Football
Carrigaline 3-5 Valley Rovers 4-3

Carrigaline U-11 footballers played in a cracking City league match v Valley Rovers on Thursday 8th May at home. After a titanic struggle Valleys came out on top by a single point after scoring a goal with the last attack of the game. At half time after playing with the breeze Carrig led on a score of 1-4 to 0-1, the goal coming from Matthew O’ Reilly with two well taken points by Brian Coakley. Carrig introduced four subs at half time. After the resumption Valleys introduced a new full forward and he scored two goals within five minutes to level matters. The game was evenly balanced for the next ten minutes with no score on either side and some great defending by both teams. Then there was a flurry of scores, Valleys scoring a goal and a point to lead by four and Carrig then scoring two goals by Matthew O’Reilly and a point from Darragh Buckley to lead by two points with time nearly up. Valleys broke out of defence quickly and scored a great goal to lead by one. Carrig fought back up the field against the strong breeze and hit the outside of the upright with the last kick of the game. It was a great advert for underage football in the south east and on this evidence these two teams will have many more great battles over the years to come. David Kirk was superb in defence all through and David Corkery was prominent in the half back line. Brian Coakley got through a huge amount of work in midfield as did Kieran Kavanagh. Adam Cohalan and David O’ Hara caught the eye in attack. The outstanding Matthew O’ Reillly finished with 3 goals and a point.

Carrigaline : Eoin O’ Connor, Sean Brophy, Donal O Regan, David Kirk, Cathal Murphy, Darragh Buckley, David Corkery, Brian Coakley, Mathew O’ Reilly, Kieran Kavanagh, Daniel Canty, Gearoid O’ Donovan, Adam Cohalan, David O’ Hara, Micheal McGrath, Darren O’ Mahony, Cian McCarthy, James Lester, Stephen Holden
Josh Cooney, Jason Kiely.

City Under-16 Hurling
Carrigaline 1-9 Glen Rovers 2-10
Carrigaline entertained Glen Rovers in the city league on Tuesday last and following a closely-contested game the visitors claimed the points.
Carrigaline were somewhat depleted for a number of reasons but gave a very creditable performance against a good Glen side. David Drake put in a great hour in the middle of the field while Sean Mellett gave an excellent display of defensive play especially when switched to the centre-back position.
Goalkeeper, Morgan Hanlon was solid throughout while Sean Masterson, playing his first hurling game, acquitted himself well at corner-back. In the forward line Padraic Conway showed up well and certainly gave the Glen defence something to think about.

U- 8 Hurling Challenge - Carrigaline v Tracton

The under 8’s got their first challenge match of the year off to a good start with a win against Tracton which was played at rainy Carrigaline last Sunday, 13th May. Both teams were evenly matched for the opening period, but the breakthrough came for Carrigaline when they were awarded a free which Eanna Desmond drove over the defence and into the Tracton net. As a result of the goal, Carrigaline took the game by the scruff of the neck with their midfield and forwards gaining control, three more goals without reply gave them a lead of four goals to no score at half time. Tracton came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and put the home team under pressure which yielded them just the one goal from a solid Carrig defence which played gallantly and defiantly. Carrigaline struck the final crushing blow with a goal of their own, which ended the game as a contest and ran out winners on a scoreline of 5-0 to 1-0. Congratulations to the coaching staff and supporters of both teams for the sporting spirit in which the match was played.
Scorers for Carrigaline: Eanna Desmond 2-0, Daniel Crowley 2-0, Olin Barry 1-0
The Carrigaline team on the day was E. Nolan, D.Murnane, J.Kelly, C.Holden, D.Cooney, J.O’Mahony, C.Nolan, O.Barry, B.Kelleher, D.McBarron, E.Desmond, S.O’Donovan, D.Lynch, D.Crowley, R.Kelleher.

SE Under-12 B Football
Shamrocks 5-14 Carrigaline 6-12

There was a great build up to this eagerly awaited game and the rivalry at local level was intense. Everything about the game was going to be important, even the toss to decide which way to play. There was a strong sun and the slight incline of the pitch could also influence the outcome. Shamrocks won the toss and decided to play away from the sun with the pitch incline to their advantage.
The first half was played at blistering pace with magnificent football on display from both teams. Darragh Corcoran, the Carrig goal scoring machine, was quick out of the blocks with some wonderfully taken goals and points. He was admirably supported by Mark O Shea and Jack Murphy in the forward line. At half time Shamrocks led by 1 point, 3 goals 6 points to 3 goals 5 points.
Carrig felt confident going into the second half as they had the sun and pitch advantage and quickly began to pull away from Shamrocks. However the Shamrocks forwards were very strong and it was score for score for most of the second half. Goals from Killian O Mahony, David Keating and some super point taking from Brian Lynch and Darren Sisk helped Carrig stay in front. The mid field battle was won by Stephen Maguire, who played his heart out and was an inspiration to the rest of the team. The Carrig defence also worked very hard with Sean O Brien, Cormac Hickey, Aodan Cotter and Mark O Driscoll superb.
In the end it was a great night for football with Carrig winning by a point, but to be fair it could have gone either way. Shamrocks played the game in its true spirit and were a credit to their coaching staff. Well done to all for a very entertaining night.

City Under-11 Football
Carrigaline 3-8 Passage 0-5
Barrs 3-4 Carrigaline 6-3
The under 11’s continued their great run with two victories in the City league during the past week. On Wednesday Passage were the visitors and at the end of the hour Carrig were victorious on a 3-8 to 0-5 scoreline.
On Friday the Barrs hosted Carrigaline at Togher and following a most entertaining game Carrig won out on a 6-3 to 3-4 scoreline.

City Under 13 Football
Carrigaline 2-9 Ballincollig 3-9
Ballincollig came to Carrigaline on Friday last and left with the league points, defeating the home side on a 3-9 to 2-9 scoreline. Best for Carrig were Greg Nestor, David Canty, David O Shea and the two Shane Griffin’s.

City Under 13 Hurling
Carrigaline 2-7 Sarsfields 2-4
Carrig hosted Sarsfields in a City league game on Saturday last and following a closely-contested and sporting game came out on top by three points.
Cillian McIntyre was Carrig’s star performer on this occasion and covered every blade of grass on the pitch over the hour. He was ably supported by team captain Jamie Depuis, Peter Mullane, Aidan O Flynn and Alan Courtney.

Under 14 Hurling
Carrig travelled to Trabeg to take on Nemo in the City Hurling league on Monday of last week and put in a great performance to take the points on a 5-10 to 0-6 scoreline.

On Thursday last St Catherines were the visitors to Carrigaline in the quarter-final of the Feile Iomaint. Again Carrig put up a big score to triumph on a 5-16 to 2-3 scoreline and so qualify for a semi-final tilt with Na Piarsaigh.

INTERMEDIATES WIN, JUNIORS DRAW

It was an excellent weekend for the Intermediate and Junior hurlers of the club in their respective Championship encounters. The intermediate team were first into action on Sunday last and they certainly didn’t disappoint their supporters in Brinny against a strong Eire Og team. In a game that was played in misty rain and very slippery underfoot conditions they got the campaign off to the perfect start with a well deserved victory. Then on Bank Holiday Monday the Junior team made the short journey to Ballygarvan to play local rivals Shamrocks in a game that Carrigaline could have won but in the end had to settle for a replay.
Carrigaline 1-15 Eire Og 1-9
The first game of the weekend saw the intermediate hurlers take on Eire Og in the Cork County Championship first round at a damp and slippery Brinny. Eire og had certainly the better of the opening half as Carrigaline took their time in settling into the game. Eire Og had three points on the board before Michael o’Sullivan registerd carrigs first score. This was quickly cancelled out by another Eire Og point but Michael O’Sullivan had other ideas when his low shot towards Nicholas Murphy ended up in the back of the net. Eire Og added another point to their tally before an excellent first time strike from O’Sullivan put a second point on the board for Carrig. Even though Eire Og added two more points to their tally they were guilty of a lot of wides which Carrigaline expoited with two points from Stephen Corcorcan (one from a free) and a simon O’Brien point meant that Carrigaline had a half time lead of 1-5 to 0-7.
Even though Eire Og started the second half with the first point Carrigaline took control from there on in. Two frees from Joe Moran and points from sub Elliot O’Keeffe (who was excellent when introduced), stephen Corcoran and Simon O’Brien gave carrig a comanding lead. An Eire Og Goal didn’t upset the Carrigaline men as they went on to score points from Wesley O’Brien, Stephen Corcoran twice and Simon O’Brien. Eire \Og finished the game with a consolation point to leave the final scoreline Carrigaline 1-15 Eire Og 1-9. On the day there were many excellent performances especially from Gary Harrington, Kevin O’Driscoll, Michael O’Sullivan, Elliot O’Keeffe and of course our two corner forwards Stephen Corcoran and simon O’Brien. Carrigaline now await the third round draw for a game which will be played sometime in June.
Team: E O’Sullivan, C Hurley, G Harrington, G Dillon, J Moran, K O’Driscoll, J Cowhig, W O’Brien A Kelly, M O’Sullivan, P Murphy, R Keohane, S corcoran, N Murphy, S O’Brien.
Subs: E O’Keeffe and T Murphy
Carrigaline 1-12 Shamrocks 1-12
The second game of the weekend was the first round of the South East hurling championship with Carrigaline taking on near neighbours Shamrocks. Carrigaline started the game with the wind at their backs and were quickly into their stride with points from Mitchel Cuddihy (two) and Brian Irwin. Shamrocks then added two points to cut the deficit to just one. Peter Ronayne hit a long range free over before veteran Philip Ahern split the posts which was folled by an Evan O’Sullivan free. In a half that was dominated by frees O’Sullivan struck another on over only t be followed by a beauty from play from Mitchel Cuddihy. In between a number of Shamrocks points O’Sullivan tacked on another free for Carrigaline to leave the half time scoreline 0-9 to 0-6 in favour of the Carrigaline men.
Shamrocks started the second half with a point only for Brian Scanlon to goal for carrig after some good work along the endline by Brendan O’Driscoll. Shamrocks took over for the next ten minutes and only for some strong defence by the Carrigaline backs and an excellent save from goalkeeper Michael Webb kept Carrigaline in the hunt. With the end in sight an and a point behind Peter Ronayne equalised from a free and Paul Campbel then put Carrig ahead with another score. Shamrocks put the game on level terms again with time running out before Craig Neville sent Carrigaline into the lead with a well taken free. Both sides were then guilty of missing chances to secure the game before Shamrocks levelled the scores again and set the game to replay on a date to be decided. On the night Carrigaline had excellent performers especially P Ronayne, M Cuddihy, Brian Irwin, andy O’Keeffe and Michael Webb.
Team: M Webb, A O’Keeffe, J Walsh, K Kelliher, P Ronayne, P Foster, K Curran, P Ahern, M Cuddihy, E O’Sullivan, B Irwin, E Cogan, B O’Driscoll, B Scanlon, N Coakley.
Subs: P Campbel, P Murphy, C Lynch, J Bray and C Neville.

Under 14 Feile Peil
Carrigaline’s hopes of glory were dashed by a super Douglas side in the semi-final of the Feile Peil which was played at Ballinlough on Sunday evening last. Carrigaline fought bravely but came up against a Douglas side firing on all cylinders and on the night could have few complaints about the result.

Attention now turns to the Feile Iomaint and St Catherines will be the visitors to Carrigaline on this Thursday May 3rd in the quarter-final of the competition. Knowing the character of our under-14 squad, they will be anxious to bounce back following the football defeat.

SE Under 12 B Football League
Carrigaline 6 - 4 Douglas 4 - 5
Last Monday week, in very wet conditions, Carrigaline played Douglas in the SE league. This was a very high scoring affair in which the two teams traded scores throughout the game. Goal scorers for Carrigaline were Darragh Corcoran, Adam Cleary, Killian O Mahony, Stephen Maguire and Brian Lynch. Some good points were also scored.
Defensively Carrigaline played well with Danny Cremen, Luke Garvin and Sean O Brien very strong in the back line. Hlumelo Maqubela and Jack Murphy were also outstanding on the night.
Two late goals by Carrigaline snatched the game from Douglas who appeared to be heading for victory. Well done to all for a very sporting contest.

City Fe 16 HL1
Carrigaline 2-9 Erins Own 1-13
Carrig hosted Erins Own on Tuesday last and in a closely-fought game the visitors came out on top by the narrowest of margins. Carrig had a lot of possession in the second half but didn’t put the scores on the board. Best for Carrigaline were David Drake at midfield, wing-forward Stephen Gorman and centre-back Kaelan Spillane.

Great Weekend for Under 11 and Under 14 Footballers

Under 11 Football - John Kerins Tournament

On Saturday last the under-11 footballers competed in the John Kerins Memorial Tournament at Togher and together with Douglas qualified for the finals which will be held in Pairc Ui Rinn on June 9th.
22 players travelled to St Finbarrs H&F Club where they played three matches in the qualifiers for the Annual John Kerins Memorial Cup. John was the outstanding goalkeeper in the Cork Senior Football Team which contested 4 All Irelands in a row from 1987 to 1990 winning two of them.

The first match against the hosts was a well contested affair with Carrigaline coming out on top on a score of 2-6 to 1-1 with well taken goals from David O’ Hara and Matthew O’ Reilly. The ‘Barrs’ keeper was very impressive saving certain goals from David Kirk and Gearoid O Donovan the latter deflected over for a point. Brian Coakley caught the eye with four points and Darragh Buckley also scored a point.

In the second match Carrigaline matched up against a very impressive Douglas team and were well beaten on a score of 4-6 to 0-0. On this evidence Douglas will take some stopping in the competition.

Qualification for the finals all came down to the last match against De La Salle from Waterford. This was a really close contest. At half time the sides were level at 1 point each. Carrigaline stepped up a gear in the second half aided by the breeze and scored four additional points to run out winers by 0-5 to 0-1 and thus advance with Douglas to the finals to be held in Pairc Ui Rinn on 9th June.
Players to stand out for Carrigaline were Sean Brophy, David Corkery and Cathal Murphy. Others to catch the eye were Gearoid O’ Donovan and David O’ Hara in attack, Donal O’ Regan and David Kirk in defence and the usual ’stalwarts’ of Brian Coakley, Darragh Buckley, Kieran Kavanagh and Matthew O’ Reilly around the middle of the park..

Carrigaline used three different goalkeepers in the competition Daniel O’ Reilly, Daniel Canty and Michael McGrath and all excelled.

All are keenly looking forward to a good day out at the finals on 9th June.
Results: Barrs 1-1 Carrigaline 2-6; Douglas 4-6 Carrigaline 0-0; De la Salle 0-1 Carrigaline 0-5.

SE Under12 C Football
Crosshaven 2-5 Carrigaline 5-3
On Monday evening Carrig travelled to Crosshaven for a crunch game against the home side in the SE league. Following a thrilling hour’s play in which both teams gave their all, Carrigaline prevailed to earn a place in the SE final against Courcey Rovers. Having played against the slight breeze in the opening half Carrig trailed by a goal at half-time, 0-1 to 1-1.
Crosshaven started the second half strongly but were denied on several occasions by the superb goalkeeping of Daniel O Reilly. They did manage to extend their lead but Carrig gradually began to gain a foothold in the game. The strong play of Darragh Buckley, Donal O Regan, Kieran Kavanagh and Brian Coakley saw Carrig claw their way back into contention. Up front Matthew O Reilly was in blistering form and in the course of that second half struck a hat-trick of goals. Cathal Murphy and Adam Cohalan scored a goal apiece as Carrig took a firm grip on the game. Crosshaven fought to the end but on the night Carrigaline deserved their victory.

Carrigaline Panel: Jason Kiely, Darren O’ Mahony, Stephen Holden, James Lester,
Cian McCarthy, Josh Cooney, Michael McGrath, Daniel O’ Reilly, David Kirk,
Donal O’ Regan, Sean Brophy, Cathal Murphy, Darragh Buckley, David Corkery,

SE Under 12 B Football
Carrigaline 1-5 Sliabh Rua 0-9

Last Monday, in front of many supporters, a thrilling encounter between Carrigaline and Sliabh Rua in the SE league was played out. Carrigaline took an early lead with an excellent goal from Deane O Leary and points from Jack Murphy and Darragh Corcoran. However Sliabh Rua never gave up and thanks to some very skilful play brought themselves back into the game with a series of well taken points.
Carrig’s ball handling was very good with Danny Cremen, Brian Lynch and Mark O Driscoll playing well in the half forward line. Also, defensively, Stephen Maguire had a blinder and Jack Murphy in goal made some brilliant saves.
There was a nail biting finish with only one point between the teams and Carrig did every thing in their power to score but were unlucky not to do so. Well done to all, players and supporters, for a cracking game of football.

Under 14
The Feile competitions continue to dominate and games were played in hurling and football during the past week.

Feile Iomaint Carrigaline 5-12 Fermoy 1-4
Carrig continued their winning ways in this year’s Feile Iomaint with a comprehensive victory in a hard physical game on a beautiful summer-like evening.
Fermoy were the visitors on Thursday last in the hurling and Carrig ran out easy winners on a 5-12 to 1-5 scoreline, with 5-9 of the Carrig total coming from play.
The visitors put up an almighty challenge during the first period with both teams putting on an exhibition of first time hurling and on numerous occasions the sound of the clash of the ash rang out around the ground where every ball won was hotly contested. As many a chance for the home team went abegging we wondered who would take control before the break as the score read 4pts to 1pt with twenty minutes on the clock. The all important score came just before the break when the hard working and impressive Cillian McIntrye first timed the sliothar to the back of the Fermoy net. Half time score 1-5 to 1pt.
With a few shrewd positional switches at the break from the management, Carrigaline took full control of the game in the second period. Cillian McSweeney and Robert O’Shea excelled throughout in the middle of the pitch and scored some wonderful long range points but Captain for the evening Michael Lynch was the star performer in the second half notching up 3-3 to put the game well beyond the visitors. This win was hard earned with the foundations being laid by an excellent back six where Stephen Dwane and John O’Keeffe excelled in their roles.

Scorers: Michael Lynch (3-3), Cillian McIntyre (1-1), Robert O Shea (0-4), Shane Griffin (1-1), Kevin Kavanagh, Cillian McSweeney and Michael Quinn (0-1 each)

SE Under 14 Football

On the following evening attention turned to the SE football league when Bandon and Tracton were the respective visitors in the B and C competitions. Both games resulted in easy victories for the home sides.
In the B game against Bandon, Kevin Conlon, Darragh O Sullivan, Kevin O Connell, Stephen Dwane, Eoin O Donovan and Dylan O Brien were all outstanding in an excellent team display.
In the C game versus Tracton, Tony Ncube, Robert Foster, Jamie McCarthy, Cian McLoughlin, Philip Ahern, Conor Cremin, Shane Griffin, Cillian McIntyre and team captain Brian Curran were the players who caught the eye.

Feile Peil Carrigaline 2-7 Ballincollig 0-4

Carrig travelled to Ballincollig on Sunday evening to take on the home side in the quarter-final of the Feile Peil and emerged victorious on a 2-7 to 0-4 scoreline, thus qualifying for a tilt at Douglas in the semi-final.
Anyone who made the trip to Ballincollig on Sunday evening last witnessed a fine display of courage, commitment, determination and most of all a high level of skill from a great bunch of Under 14’s who never give up and always represent their club with great pride and honour.
This was a hard hitting physical game from the start with the home team trying to put down a marker from early on. Scores were hard to come by, Carrigaline guilty of kicking numerous wides in the first period and they trailed by 2pts at the break, 0-1 to 0-3, Carrig’s only score coming from the boot of Dylan O’Brien.
The second half was an almighty struggle as the Owenabue outfit out-fought and out classed their opponents, playing some high quality football as the home team began to lose their composure.
Eoin Moyihan pulled off two great saves, Kevin Kavanagh played a blinder at full back and was ably helped by Anthony O’Reilly and Eoin O’Donnell who was replaced by Kevin O’Connell after an injury. Michael Quinn and Michael O’Grady broke up and set up many attacks with their ability to win the 50/50 balls. Middle of the pitch was won by Jamie Kind and Cillian McSweeney as they caught great ball and ran at Ballincollig throughout the game. Carrig’s opening goal came from a free way out on the left which Stephen Dwane took and as it hung high in the air for what seemed an age, it finally found its nesting place in the back of the net. This was followed by four great points from David Drinan and Michael Lynch all from long range. Carrigaline smelt victory and went at the home team at every opportunity with tireless running from Robert O’Shea, John O’Keeffe and Eoin O’Donovan. Sub Cillian McIntrye scored an excellent point off his left peg to stretch the lead. Darragh O’Sullivan was introduced with ten minutes to go and played his part. Six points to the good with four minutes remaining Carrigaline killed off any late surge from the home team when Michael Lynch calmly stroked the ball past the opposing keeper to send the Carrigaline support home happy, knowing they would have another day out in the Feile Peil. The old saying “Football will always win out” was certainly right on this occasion.

SE Under 16 C Football

Carrigaline 3-18 Shamrocks 3-5

Carrigaline played Shamrocks in their first home league game last Wednesday night. Carrig started well and they took many fine scores in the opening period. However, Shamrocks managed to grab a couple of goals to keep them in the hunt at half time. In the second half Shamrocks came out fighting and put it up to Carrig for a while. As the half wore on though Carrig regained control and with their forwards on song, particularly P Conway, Doc Callaghan, J Glennon and D McCarthy they ran out comfortable winners. Others to impress were L Hanlon, C O Flynn, M Hanlon P Molloy and C Keating.

HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS
This week sees the Intermediate and Junior Hurling Championship campaigns begin. On Sunday in Brinny Carrigaline take on Eire Og in the first round of the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship at 2.30pm in what promises to be an exciting game. Carrigaline go into this game well prepared and having reached the final last year they will want to get their season off to the best possible start.
The Junior Hurlers begin their championship campaign by making the short trip to Ballygarvan on Bank Holiday Monday to play near neighbours Shamrocks at 3.30pm.
The Junior team have re-entered the City Division this year and have benefited from the extra games so a good encounter is in prospect. We wish both managers , their selectors and their players the very best and hopefully by Monday evening we will have two first round victories under our belt. These are important matches for the club so your support is greatly appreciated in what should be two exciting games.
Amongst the other teams in the club who played during the week the junior B team beat shamrocks , our Junior A hurlers are playing catch up with their league programme and had a couple of games while unfortunately our minor b hurlers were beaten by Ballygarvan. Also our Feile tem lost to Douglas in the football semi final but the club would like to thank Denis Walker of Lennoxs Carrigaline for his support of the team.
Junior Hurling City League:
In the past week the Junior A hurlers have played two games in the city league and due to the death of our former Gaa President Mr Con Murphy, one of our games was called off as a mark of respect. On Wed last we travelled to Whitechurch to play our second game in the city league and after a nervous opening ten minutes came out well on top of a scoreline of 3-14 to 0-6. Whitechurch gave us a good hard battle in the opening ten minutes but with players such as John walsh, Kevin Curran, Evan O’ Sullivan and Brian Irwin getting into the game we took a quick lead afters goals from O’ Sullivan and Brian Scanlon who throughout the game caused major problems with his strenght and hurling skills. In the second half half back Peter Roynane came into the game and gave a masterful performance, also the 2 minors on the panel Niall Coakley and Dara Coughlan deserve mentioning as they played major rolls in the game throughout. Team: B Foster, T O’ Connell, D Coughlan, K Kelleher, K Curran, J Walsh, P Roynane, C Lynch, M Cuddihy, E Cogan, B Irwin, P Murphy, E O’ Sullivan, B Scanlon, N Coakley. On Saturday evening we travelled to Bishopstown to play them in the city and to date we felt that this would be our hardest game so far and a big chance to know where we stood in relation to preparation for the championship game on bank holiday monday against Shamrocks. In the first half we played with a strong wind and both teams exchanged early points, but this was soon to change after a high ball into the 13m line was superbly caught by corner forward John Bray and he burried his shot to the back of the net, the town replied with two pointed frees and the majority of their scores were from pointed frees. Moments later full forward Brian Scanlon turned his man and burried his shot to the back of the net to give us a nice lead and both teams exchanged points but in the final few minutes of the first half the home side took control of the game and managed 3 unanswered points and a mix up in the Carrig defence gifted them with a goal and it only left us with point lead with the wind and the odds against us. In the second half after a good half time talk, Carrig came out with all guns blazing and put in a massive half to keep the lead over Bishopstown. With John Walsh outstanding at center back and the other 5 backs playing very well the Bishopstown found every score very hard to get, midfield was changed aroung with Evan O’ Sullivan and Philip Ahern playing well and with Brian Scanlon, Eamon Cogan and John Bray tapping over the points Niall Coakley soon got on the scoresheet too. Discipline in the second half was very well done and players failed to give away silly frees so the town failed to capitalize on the strong wind. After an all around superb second half display the Carrig team went on to win by 2 points on a scoreline of 2-9 to Bishopstown 1-10. JB FL V Shamrocks
Carrigaline 3-5 Shamrocks 1-8
Carrigaline started this game well and finished the game strongly to win in what was their first outing in the South East League. In what was something of a repeat from the night before in the JA Championship Carrigaline settled faster and then had to endure a lot of pressure from Shamrocks before finally coming out on top. Carrig started the game in whirlwind fashion and had 2-2 on the board without reply. Then Shamrocks came into the game and by half time Carrigs lead was only by a point.
Shamrocks started the second half as they finished the first and looked to be heading for a victory only for a late flurry from the Carrigaline lads which yielded 1-3 and a three point winning margin. Carrigaline can thank Shane O’Hanlon in goal, Brian Scanlon when moved to midfield and Alan Murphys goals for this victory.
