The Carrigaline Pipe Band led the proud teams on to the pitch to tremendous applause and cheering from family and friends.

U-8 Hurling Challenge
Tracton 5-0 v Carrigaline 4-2

The under 8’s had their second outing against Tracton which was played in the best of weather on Friday, 8th June at Minane Bridge. Carrigaline started the livelier and had three scores on the board, a well struck point from Brian Kelleher and goals by Ian O’Donoghue and Eanna Desmond before Tracton found their feet and came storming back to lead at half time 3-0 to 2 -1. The home team now were on top of their game and came out of the blocks quickest at the start of the second half and scored a fourth goal before Carrigaline replied with two goals and a point of their own to lead going into the last ten minutes 4-2 to 4-0. Scorers were Ian O’Donoghue, Daniel Crowley and a well- taken point by Olin Barry. Carrigaline lost the momentum coming to the finish line and Tracton punished them with a goal. The last few minutes were testing for Tracton and no matter how hard they tried Carrig could not come up with the winning score. The final result was Tracton 5-0, Carrigaline 4-2.

FOOTBALLERS DRAW AGAIN

The Junior footballers continued their Championship campaign with a draw last Friday evening in Minane Bridge against Ballinhassig. Like their first drawn game against Belgoley they can thank their goalkeeper for helping to give them a second bite at the cherry. Two excellent saves by Matthew O’Sullivan as the game entered its final stages helped to ensure Carrigaline survived. Scores were few and far between during the game with both defences staying strong throughout. Kyle Meehan started the scoring for Carrig and this was quickly followed by a point from John Mullaney in the 9th minute. Carrigaline had to play on the back foot for the next fifteen minutes as Ballinhassig came into the game with three unanswered points. Full forward Niall Coakley scored Carrigalines third point of the half in the 22nd minute after some good work by wing back Shane Barry. Cormac Creed Nolan scored Carrigs final point of the half on 24 minutes before Ballinhassig equalised and then brought a good save out of Matthew O’Sullivan to send the teams in level at half time.
The second half was again a quiet afair from a scoring prospective with the bulk of the play in the middle third of the field. By the 10th minute of the half Carrig were trailing by a point after Cormac Creed Nolan had scored o point in between two for Ballinhassig. Niall Coakley levelled in the 17th minute before two excellent saves from Matthew O’Sullivan kept the game alive for Carrigaline. The game took on a new lease of life after this with both sides going in search of a winner and a niall Coakley point and a Ballinhassig free meant that these teams would meet again.
Team: M O’Sullivan, J Cowhig, B Irwin, K Kelliher, P Ronayne, A Noonan, S Barry, C Lynch, S O’Regan, P Campbell, C Creed Nolan, Ml O’Sullivan, J Mullaney, N Coakley, K Meehan.

RACE NIGHT A HUGE SUCCESS

A night at the Dogs which was run by the Carrigaline GAA Club in Curraheen Park on the 7th June last was not only a great night for the club in terms of raising money but also for the number of people who turned up on the night to support the event. It was fantastic to see so many of our younger members with their parents on the night. The idea for the night was mooted some time back and once a committee under the guidance of Jim Forbes was put in place a lot of hard work went into getting sponsors, selling dogs, advertisements and tickets. The response from the business community was again brilliant as could be seen on the night from the sponsors of the races and the large number of advertisements that were on display in the program.
On the race front Astra Construction sponsored the main race of the night while the other race sponsors were Harrington Assessors, ACC Bank, The Stables Bar, Dave Johnson Builder, Cogans Toyota Dealer, The Cornor House, Martin Walsh Pharmacy, Barry Collins Super Value and the AIB. Congratulations to all thos owners who had winners on the night and hopefully some of our supporters came away with a few extra euros as well.
The club would also like to thank those who placed adds in the program, who sponsored dogs an to everyone who came along and made the night so successful. To the management and staff of Curraheen Park we would like to say a big thank you for putting the venue at our disposal the hospitality we received was as usual second to none. To the members of the club who took on the hard task of going door to door selling the entry/raffle tickets a big thank you as this is not an easy task and involved a lot of estates being covered. The people that we came across at the doors were very supportive of our cause and only too willing to buy a ticket. So again Thanks to all who made it a fantastic night.

CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWS
The draws for the Intermediate Hurling and Football Championship were made in the last couple of weeks. In the Hurling Carrigaline will meet Cobh with the winners going on to play Fr. O’Neills while the Footballers go straight into the ¼ final and a game against Fermoy. The hurling game is down for the weekend 6th July and the football soon after, so best of luck to both teams.
The Junior Footballers are next out in the Championship arena they play Ballinhassig on Friday night in Minane Bridge at 6.45pm. This team has done very well this year so far so hopefully they will go a step further on Friday night.

CLUB ACTIVITIES
It Is planned to hold a club night sometime around the start of July so when this is arranged we would ask all club members to put it in their diary. Robbie Foster and Friends will be providing entertainment so a great night is assured.

Carrigaline Under-Age GAA
Under 10 Hurlers Success
Decky Guckian Shield – Under 10 Hurling Final
Carrigaline 0-5 Bishopstown 0-2
On Sunday May 20th Carrigaline under-10 hurlers travelled to the Glen Field to take on Bishopstown in the final of the Decky Guckian Shield, a tournament organized by the Glen Rovers club. Cian O’Brien was the organizer in chief and the competition was kindly sponsored by Decky Guckian.
The tournament brought together sixteen teams from as far afield as Mallow and Youghal and it culminated in two finals held in the Glen Field on Sunday May 20th,
the Shield Final being between Bishopstown and Carrigaline.

The match was a very tight affair between two very committed teams. Defences on both sides played extremely well with Peter O’Reilly (Captain) at full-back and Stephen Williamson at centre-back both playing very well. At centre-forward Barry Ryan had a great game ably assisted by all the forward line. Kieran Dwane at midfield turned in a man of the match performance followed closely by his midfield partner Caleb O’Connell.
The first half was very evenly contested with defenders on both sides playing well. Carrigaline had the better of the exchanges but only led 0-2 to 0-0 at half time. The second half was more of the same with both teams fighting tooth and nail for supremacy.
The game remained in the balance right to the death due in no small way to the valiant efforts of the Bishopstown team. The Carrigaline lads showed a lot of character to win by 0-5 points to 0-2.
Peter O’Reilly, Kieran Dwane and Cian Drinan stood out in a great team display.

City U-11 Hurling
Carrigaline 4 – 3 Ballincollig 4 - 4.
Blackrock 4 – 8 Carrigaline 2 - 3
In a highly entertaining game in the city league on May 17th Carrig U-11s were narrowly beaten by an impressive Ballincollig outfit. On Saturday May 19th they travelled to Blackrock where they came up against a very good Blackrock side.
Best for Carrigaline were Brian Coakley, Kieran Kavanagh, goalkeeper Eoin O’ Connor and Frank Keohane in defence.
Team: Eoin O Connor, Daniel Barry, Micheal Beausang, Sean Brophy, Darragh Buckley, Brian Coakley, Josh Cooney, Kieran Kavanagh, Frank Keohane, Jason Kiely, Cathal Murphy, Evan O Connell, Gearoid O’ Donovan, David Kirk, Darren O’ Mahony, Daniel O’ Reilly, Donal O Regan, David O’ Hara, Cian McCarthy, James Lester.

SE Under-14 C Hurling

John Kerins Football Tournament
The under-11 footballers took part in the finals of the John Kerins Tournament on Saturday last in Pairc Ui Rinn. While ultimate success eluded them on the day they can be very proud of their efforts in reaching the finals of this prestigious tournament.

Street League Finals
On Sunday morning last the Street League Hurling Finals for the Under 5’s and 6’s took place in the GAA grounds. On a beautiful summer’s morning up to fifty young players were in action on four pitches. A large gathering of parents and supporters were also present. Following the finals medals were presented to all the players by Under-Age Committee Chairman Bernie O Mahony and Street League Chairman Pat Barry. Afterwards refreshments were enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Curraheen Park Race Night – Thursday June 7th
