South East Under-16 B Hurling League
Valley Rovers 1-5 Carrigaline 3-11

Carrig enjoyed a comfortable victory over Valley Rovers at Brinny on Wednesday week last. Carrig led 1-5 to 1-2 at the break and early second-half goals from Cillian McSweeney and Niall Martin put the game beyond the Rovers. David Drake and Dylan O’Keeffe were again very prominent on the scoresheet.
The halfback line of Luke Hanlon, Cian Barry and Kaelan Spillane was in superb form and proved to be the springboard for many a Carrig attack.
Carrigaline scorers: David Drake (1-2), Cillian McSweeney (1-2), Dylan O’Keeffe
(0-4), Niall Martin (1-0), Liam O’Regan (0-2), Sean Conlon (0-1).

South East Under-16 C Hurling League

Ballygarvan took the points in this South East fixture, but only after strong resistance from a plucky Carrigaline outfit. At half time only a few points separated the two sides with A O Reilly, P Bresnan, S Caffrey , S Dwane and D O Sullivan repulsing most of what Ballygarvan could throw at them. Some slack marking at times out the field led to a physically stronger Ballygarvan team gain majority possession and pick off their scores. M Lynch and K Murphy were the pick of the forwards on the night and E O Donovan was solid in goal; always providing a stubborn last line of resistance.
Panel :E O Donovan, A O Reilly, P Bresnan, S Caffrey, S Dwane, D O Sullivan, K Kavanagh, C O Flynn, J Kind, E Moynihan, M Lynch, G O Mahony, P Conway, K Murphy, S Murray.

South East Under-12 B Hurling League

Ballinhassig 1-1 Carrigaline 9-9

As the scoreline suggests this was a comprehensive victory for Carrig over a young but game Ballinhassig side. It was an outstanding team display from Carrigaline on a night when some players excelled and all contributed in a significant way. The midfield duo of Darragh Corcoran, who contributed 3-3, and team captain Stephen Maguire were excellent all through while Aodán Cotter at centre-forward also had a superb hour.
Carrigaline team and scorers: Luke Garvin, Sean O’Brien, Killian O’Mahony (0-2), Jared Fitzgerald, Mark O’Shea, Brian Lynch, Darragh Buckley, Darragh Corcoran

SE Hurling Title for Under-14’s but Rockies Prove too Strong in County
Carrigaline 1-14 Ballinhassig 0-5
In the final of the SE Under-14 A Hurling Championship played at Carrigaline the home side overcame a gallant Ballinhassig side.
Facing the breeze Ballinhassig were first to score with a point in the opening minute but a goal from a long-range free by Cillian McSweeney and a point from the same player got Carrig on their way. Cillian’s accuracy from placed balls was unerring throughout and with Michael Lynch adding two superb scores at the end of good moves, Carrig led at the break 1-9 to 0-2.
Ballinhassig battled hard to stay in touch but Carrig picked off scores from various distances and angles and at the end of the third quarter had stretched their lead to 1-13 to 0-4. Ballinhassig could make no inroads on the lead in the remaining time and Carrig ran out comfortable winners.
Scorers: Carrigaline: C McSweeney 1-7 (1-4 f, 0-1 ‘65’), M Lynch 0-3, E Moynihan, R O’Shea, S Griffin, M O’Grady 0-1 each.

Carrigaline 4-7 Blackrock 6-12
The final scoreline does not do justice to a brave Carrigaline team who fought all the way in a high-scoring County quarter-final played at Carrigaline on Sunday evening last. Indeed, with 53 minutes on the clock Carrig had taken a two-point lead (4-6 to 2-10) following an opportunist goal from Cillian McIntyre. However a late deluge of scores saw Blackrock home by a comfortable margin and left the Carrig boys shattered.
Blackrock got off to a great start when they goaled in the first minute and after 20 minutes they led 1-5 to 0-2, Carrig’s points coming from two frees by Robert O’Shea. A scoring-burst from Carrig turned the game on its head as the first period drew to a close. Goals from Rob O’Shea, following a great pass by Cillian McSweeney, and from Kevin Kavanagh on the stroke of half-time saw Carrig take a two-point lead into the break (2-4 to 1-5).
The first twenty minutes of the second half saw a great battle for supremacy with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions. Conor Gould stretched Carrig’s lead with a point immediately after the restart, having been set up brilliantly by Eoin Moynihan. The Rockies responded with three points to tie up the game, one of them courtesy of a superb save by Eoin O Donovan, who deflected a rasping shot over the crossbar. Kevin Kavanagh made a great catch and pointed to give Carrig the lead once again but Blackrock then registered 1-1 to re-take the lead. Stephen Dwane, having been moved to full-forward, then scored a super goal to level matters once more. Blackrock responded with a point from a 65m free and then came Cillian McIntyre’s goal which saw Carrig ahead with the clock ticking down. Blackrock finished in whirlwind fashion and left the Carrig lads heartbroken. However they can hold their heads up high, playing their hearts outl and contributing handsomely to a super contest.

South East Under-16 Hurling League
Carrigaline 2-15 Douglas 3-10
Carrig enjoyed a two-point victory over neighbours Douglas at Carrigaline on Friday evening last. David Drake and Dylan O’Keeffe led the way in the scoring stakes, notching six points each. David converted six frees while Dylan gave an exhibition of point-taking, all six coming from play.
Cian Barry scored 1-1, his goal coming as a result of superb team play. Kaelan Spillane won a great ball in defence and cleared to Sean Conlon. Sean passed to James Sheppard who set up Cian for a brilliant score.

They travelled to Ballygarvan to take on the home side on Friday 29th in their final league game, knowing that a win would secure the League title for them. Carrig came out on top on a 3-8 to 3-6 scoreline to claim the title following an unbeaten League programme. Conor Gould was the hero on the night, claiming a hat-trick of goals, following his introduction as a substitute.

City Under 13 Hurling League
Two good victories were recorded recently over Glen Rovers and Blarney in the City under-13 hurling league. The Glen visited Carrigaline on Saturday June 23rd and came up against a Carrig side firing on all cylinders. Killian O’Mahony, Robert Foster, Stephen Maguire, Cillian McIntyre and Darragh Corcoran stood out in a magnificent team display which saw Carrig record a 7-13 to 2-8 victory.
On the following day Carrig travelled to Dunmanway to play the home side in a challenge. They were shown magnificent hospitality by their hosts and had a really enjoyable day. Fittingly the game ended in an honourable draw.
On Saturday last, June 30th Blarney were the visitors to Carrigaline in a City league match and following a great game Carrig came out on top on a 5-5 to 3-3 scoreline.
This was a sweet win for the Carrig boys as it avenged last year’s defeat at the hands of the same opposition in the quarter-final of the under-12 County Championship.
Best for Carrig in a great team display were Darren Murphy, Jason Brady and David Canty.
