SISK GOAL SEALS SEMI FINAL SPOT
CARRIGALINE 2-9 NEMO RANGERS 0-11
A last minute goal from the fist of Cian Sisk sealed a semi final spot for the Carrigaline Premier Minor Footballers in this years Championship. In what was a tight game all through Carrigaline came out on top thanks to their ability to score goals at vital times in the game. The first goal game in the 9th minute as Nemo were starting to take control of the game and had moved into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead, but a superbly taken goal from the boot of David Drake to put Carrigaline a point to the good. Dylan O’Keeffe who was playing well in the corner had his and Carrigalines second point in the 17th minute to put two between the sides. After some scrappy play around the middle third O’Keefe again added another to his tally to put Carrig three ahead. At this stage Nemo took control of the game and in the last six minutes of the half the put four points on the board to give them a half time lead of 0-7 to 1-3. The loss of Cian Barry to injury towards the end of the half was also unsettling for the team.
Scores were hard to come by at the start of the second with both sides guilty of easy misses. Nemo added to their lead in the 12th minute, but this was cancelled out by a David Drake free in the 14th minute. Nemo added another point before Carrigaline hit a purple patch and points from Dylan O’Keeffe, Simon O’Brien (twice) and a David Drake free put Carrig into a 1-8 to 0-9 lead with five minutes remaining. James McCarthy had a point for Carrig in between two Nemo points before the all crucial goal Sisk was scored with time up. Carrigaline now go on to face Bishopstown in the semi Final of the championship on a date and venue to be decided. There were many excellent performers on the night, Sean Mellet was commanding in goal, all the backs were solid and moved the ball quickly out of defence, Liam O’Regan, David O’Regan and Wayne Bruton covered the whole field, while up front Dylan O’Keeffe (with four points from play), Simon O’Brien and David Drake were always tormenting the Nemo defence.
TEAM: S Mellet, T O’Connor, D Bagnall, S Noonan, S Conlon, C Barry, D Spillane, D O’Regan, J Shepherd, L O’Regan, D Drake, J McCarthy, W Bruton, S O’Brien, D O’Keeffe. Subs: S O’Hanlon, C Malone, C Sisk, C Barry.

Carrigaline Under-Age GAA

County Under-14 A Football Final

Carrigaline 1-5 St Michaels 5-17
At Mallow Sports Complex on Wednesday last Carrig faced an excellent St Michaels side in the County Under-14 A Football Final. On the night Carrig came up against a team firing on all cylinders but fought valiantly throughout the game.
Carrig started the game brightly and had a goal on the scoreboard in the opening minute. This was a brilliant individual effort from Killian McIntyre. St Michaels controlled the remainder of the half and led comfortably at the interval, 3-8 to 1-1.
Carrig battled bravely in the second half but could make little impression against a powerful St Michaels fifteen. Points from Jamie De Puis (2), Killian McIntyre, Paudie Kingston and Shane Griffin completed the Carrig scoring.

City Under-11 Hurling League Semi-Final

Carrigaline 4-4 Blackrock 1-3
Carrigaline faced Blackrock in the semi-final of the City hurling league at Carrigaline on Saturday week last. Having met each other in the early stages of the league both teams knew that this would be a good game of hurling. The game was played in a great sporting manner throughout and both teams should be congratulated for the excellent hurling skills on show despite the heavy pitch and the adverse weather conditions.

Carrigaline started well in the first half and contained the Blackrock forwards with Evan Ryle doing a good man marking job on the big Blackrock full forward. Carrigaline`s half back line and midfield won their individual battles allowing the forwards plenty of the ball. There was a lot of goalmouth action in front of the Blackrock goal but Carrigaline only managed one goal by Barry Ryan in the first half.
They led by 1-2 to 0-2 at the break.

In the second half, however, the Carrigaline forwards were winning a lot of possession. It wasn’t until late in the game that Carrigaline were able to get the scores to finally seal this win with goals from Niall Quirke (1) and substitute James Lordan (2).
Kieran Dwane, showing some excellent skills, controlled midfield throughout.

Carrigdhoun Under-16 Football Championship Semi Final

Carrigaline 3-14 Crosshaven 2-6
Crosshaven travelled to near neighbours Carrigaline in this eagerly awaited Championship clash played last Sunday afternoon. The game started badly for Carrig as a ball deflected off a defender’s leg only to nestle into the corner of the net. However, Carrig responded in the right fashion as P Conway floated one over the bar. Within 10 minutes Carrig were back on level pegging as M Hanlon and M Lynch found their range. Carrig took a well earned lead into the break as C O Flynn and M Lynch both raised a green flag with well taken efforts.

Carrig drove on in the second half as all members of the team contributed to an impressive hard working performance. J Kind , S Caffrey and C O Flynn worked hard in the midfield sector making life difficult for Crosshaven to come back. Carrig’s backs were in a mean mood giving away few scoring opportunities. An expertly taken M Lynch effort put an end to Crosshaven’s hopes. A date with Valley Rovers in the final awaits and Carrig can go into the game full of confidence on the back of this performance.

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS REACH COUNTY FINAL

INTERMEDIATE HURLERS REACH COUNTY FINAL
CARRIGALINE 2-17 KANTURK 0-19
Carrigaline qualified for the 2008 Intermediate Hurling County Final thanks to a well deserved victory over Kanturk in Coachford last Sunday evening. Stephen Corcoran’s accuracy from frees, goals from Simon O’Brien and Tony Murphy and an excellent defensive display ensured the victory. It was a game where scores came thick and fast with many of them of the highest order. By the 10th minute Kanturk were 0-5 to 0-3 to the good but Carrigaline were starting to have more influence on the game. The half back line were taking the game to their opponents while Stephen Corcoran and Simon O’Brien were always a threat in the inside forward line. Both these players had Carrig level by the 16th minute before Kanturk took the lead again, but this was quickly cancelled out by a sublime point from the sideline from Mickey O’Sullivan. Carrigaline went ahead for the first time in the 20th minute with a Corcoran free and the same player split the posts again from a free to increase Carrigs lead. Two more frees (one for either side) left the scoreline 0-9 to 0-7 in Carrigaline’s favour before Simon O’Brien dispatched the ball to the back of the Kanturk net after taking a good delivery from Johnny Cowhig. Two more points each left the half time score 1-11 to 0-9 in favour of Carrigaline.
Nick Murphy got Carrigaline off to the perfect start with the first point of the half and Kanturk followed this with a point from a free. Then the second goal of the game came after Tony Murphy took a pass from Wesley O’Brien to score a fine goal. Kanturk then hit their purple patch in the game and even though they outscored Carrigaline by six points to one between the 6th and 16th minute they could not breach a strong Carrigaline back line to score the goal they needed, mainly thanks to a great clearance off the line from Colin Lynch. Then to Carrigs credit they kept their nerve and came back into the game thanks to two points from Stephen Corcoran frees. Carrig were now five points to the good with about seven minutes remaining and despite Kanturk getting the last two points of the game Carrigaline were victorious on a scoreline of 2-17 to 0-19. It was a very entertaining game to watch and everyone played their part to reach to final.
Team: M Webb, C Lynch, P Foster, G Dillon, P Ronayne, J Moran, J Cowhig, W O’Brien, G Harrington, M O’Sullivan, T Murphy, P Murphy, S O’Brien, N Murphy, S Corcoran. Sub: D Drake.
JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Carrigaline 1-11 to 1-4
The killer B’s got their championship off to a winning start under lights in Carrigaline last Tuesday night. Carrigaline were very impressive in the first half and some of their scores were top class. Alan Murphy and Tony O’Sullivan were the Carrig scores during the half with Tony scoring an excellent goal. All over the field Carrig were playing well and moving the ball from defence to attack quickly meant they went in at half time 1-7 to 1-1 to the good.
The second half was a scrappy affair with a lot a ball being kicked wide and possession lost, but still they were too strong for Ballinhassig. Brian Scanlon had a point on the board for Carrig while Tony O’Sullivan kicked three points in the half to give victory to Carrigaline 1-11 to 1-4.
Team: S O’Hanlon, E Murphy, D O’Riordan, J Roberts, E O’Sullivan, J Walsh, P Kiernan, P Bradsfield, B Scanlon, T O’Sullivan, E Weste, P Kelleher, M Quinn, A Murphy, R Meade. Subs: D Manley, B Brown, J Bray, K Ahern, B Ryan.
