Carrigaline Under-Age GAA Celebrate a Successful Year
The Annual Awards Night of Carrigaline Under-Age GAA Club was held on Friday January 16th in the Club Pavilion. About 150 players from under-10 to under-16 along with many of their parents were in attendance. Guests of Honour included Very Rev. Fr Bertie O’Mahony P.P., Daithi O Donovan (Club President), Billy Walsh (Club Chairman), Mícheál McSweeney (Secretary of County Bord-na-nOg), Lorraine Houlihan (Principal, Scoil Mhuire Lourdes) and Peter Murphy (Intermediate Hurling Captain).
Before the Awards ceremony got under way sausages, chips and refreshments were served up to the players, thanks to the efforts of Tony Barry, Paddy Finn and helpers in the kitchen.
Under-Age Club Chairman, Bernie O Mahony welcomed everybody and paid tribute to the various teams, their mentors and parents who had contributed in making 2008 a most successful year. He paid a special tribute to the management and players of the Intermediate Hurling team who had brought the first adult County Title in either hurling or football to the club by defeating Bandon in the County Final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in October. He also thanked schools coach Pat Spratt for the great work being done in conjunction with the teachers in the local schools.
Each Guest of Honour spoke and complimented the club on the excellent work being done for the young people in the community and wished them well for 2009.
The various team managers complimented their playing panels, fellow-mentors and parents for their help, dedication and commitment throughout 2008 and then introduced the players as they came up to receive their medals from Intermediate Hurling captain, Peter Murphy.
Medals were presented to the various teams in recognition of their successes in Carrigdhoun competitions during 2008.

Congratulations were extended to the following players who represented Cork and special presentations were made to them on behalf of the club by Dáithi O Donovan.

Fe 14 Hurling: Killian McIntyre
Fe14 Football: Shane Griffin and Killian McIntyre
A special presentation was made by Chris Allen, on behalf of the under-16 players and their parents, to manager Eamonn Hennessy for the excellent and dedicated work he has done with that group of players over the past three years.
Following the presentations refreshments were served to the adults in the Club Lounge while the players had the opportunity to win some attractive spot prizes in the hall.
